What the shift linkage look like?
I just swapped in an AOD to replace my C4 trans.
I wasn't sure if it would be an issue or not, but have found this to be extremely annoying now. The PO seems to have made his own shift linkage, consisting of a shriveled up bent piece of all thread.
The truck has a column shifter. In the engine bay there is a lever on the other end. This is all that apears to be stock.
What goes from the lever on the end of the column to the transmission? It doesn't seem like a straight rod would work, as the levers are perpandicular to each other.
I hooked up the gheto rigged rod to the AOD, it does work but I go all the way into 1 from P by the time the indicator hits N! Its a real pain trying to get the thing into Drive, its super sensitive!
Thanks!
This one must be a factory look a like. It consists of three metal sticks welded together.
The longer arm will solve the problem. I was hoping there was a more... stock replacement part method, but I guess I've already got that!
Thanks for the help!
I think you will find that a one piece shift linkage won't work between the column and the AOD. When I did mine there were no aftermarket cable kits available, so I made my own bell crank setup and spent a lot of time adjusting to make the detents fall in the correct place. It works great now so I won't change it, but it was a big pain.
Stan69 just did his a few months ago and we found a cable kit from Ididit. I think it was much easier to set up and install. He said he was happy with it.
The kit from Ididit is not cheap but I think it is probably well worth it.
Also did you hook up your tv cable? It has to be adjusted properly to shift the AOD.
