Shift rod linkage

Im attempting to remove the steering column in my 85 f250, it is an automatic. Is anyone familiar with how to properly remove the Shift rod linkage from the column? It looks like the rod itself "snaps" into the shift lever that is connected to the column. Almost looks like I need to pop it out or pry on it with a chisel to get it to pop out. If I do this though it would seem likely that I would damage it. Any advice?

Thanks,

Jeremy

It takes quite a bit of pressure to press it out. I've done it by disconnecting it on the tranny end, holding it out so it creates a pull on the shifter end, and then popping it with a screwdriver. If you damage the nylon bushing, you can get a replacement at NAPA for about $2.00

Thanks for the tip, I was able to pop it out with pliers, and the bushing looked fine afterwards. Thanks again!
