I spent half the day today trying to get the column out of my parts truck. Everything was easy except the darn shift linkage. My trucks are 3 speed column shift, How do you get the shift linkage out of the holes they're in on the column? The column is dangling by the two linkages, everything else is done.
howdy, there is no clip if it is origional, what ford had to remove those is a special tool that looks sort of like a pair of pliers, they are pressed in as a tight fit and replacement gromets are readly available still from ford. if they are old they will usually come out without to much of a fight, but if there still in good shape they can be a bear to pop out.
i converted a pair of pliers because theres not a lot of room to work in that area. but with your column being loose you can move it around a bit, & you might be able to get a real small puller & give it a try, I hope my 2 cents worth helps, Jess
I got it out yesterday. I used a 3 ft pry bar. There are no clips on the original linkage. It's a rubber grommet, with brass. It was such a pain because the truck had low miles on it. The pry bar made short work of the lot of them.
