EGT gauge going nuts
EGT gauge going nuts
So Mon going to work I hit a large puddle going under a bridge on the way to work (couldn't avoid it, it was all the way across both lanes). Didn't give it much thought until I looked at my gauges. EGT was down to @ 200, should've been at least 6-700ish as I drive this road every day, so I have a rough idea. Don't know if it caused gauge to go nuts or if its unrelated, but now EGT will read normally for the first few minutes, then it slowly drops to @ 200 and sometimes it bounces like crazy up and down. I pulled the pod Mon night and checked wires- OK. I'm thinking its just the gauge taking a crap, but wondered if anyone else ever had this problem before I just get a new gauge. Its an AutoMeter Pro Comp Ultra Lite, and neither the trans or boost gauge are malfunctioning, which leads me to believe its just dying. Thoughts? TIA - Tim
EDIT: Ouch, Summit wants $131.95 for just the gauge

If you can live without it, you could send the thermocouple to me and I believe the I/E techs at work could test it.
Something is wrong with mine also, doesnt read right, ill be driving steady and it will go up and down like yours, think mine is bad to, i have the auto meter like yours, and i don't really want to spend 130 on a gauge right now, i guess they just go bad.
One of my good friends just bought gauges for his 6.0 and hasn't installed them yet. He'd let me put his EGT in my truck to see if it IS the gauge, maybe this week-end I'll talk to him. Thanks for the offer, Mark!
I'll try my buddies gauge when I get the chance, that way I'm not spending $250 when I get the one thats NOT broke!

Does your Thermocouple have a quick connect? If so you may have got it full of water and this is causing your erratic readings. Take it apart and clean then see what it does.
Cant see the gauge going bad from hitting the water but the thermocouple or the connection yes.

It doesn't have a quick connect, but I am going to go over it once I have time, maybe this weekend. But then again, we might get up to 2 feet of snow so it might have to wait until next weekend. I'm seeing this as a good excuse to get the Insight but don't tell my wife!
Maybe for my birthday present to myself at the end of the month.

Son of a biscuit, it started working again yest! Fixed itself. I'll have to keep a close eye on it. Is it wrong for me to hope it quits for good so I can convince the CFO I NEED an Insight?
