2001 fog light mod
2001 fog light mod
Ok i have read tons of info on this mod. My concern at this point is just the '01. From what I gather, you can pull the headlight switch, cut the red/yellow wire, and tap it into the brown wire.
My question,
Can you still turn the fog lights off with the existing push pull switch, or will this make them run whenever the headlights are on?
I am good with schematics, but haynes manual is not great for the F series. It is better for the excursion, but it looks to me like this might make the fogs on any time the headlights are on.
Some ppl might not want that. Like myself.
However if that is how it turns out, I have anouther idea.
I just had an idea, tell me what you think.

For the headight wire upgrade, you only need to use one side of the existing headlight plugs.
Our fog lights use a headlight bulb. Most ppl upgrade these.
So why not upgrade them to high low bulbs. Make anouther headlight upgrade harness, or buy one, without the high/low mod. Use the other existing headlight wire to trigger the second harness, and hook the second harness to the fog lights. Then you do not have to worry about modding the switch or wires, and you end up with high and low fog lights.
would that work?
If the push/pull switch does still work, you could add anouther relay, on the hot wire from batt, and still shut them off if you like. But like i said if the current mod leaves them on with the headlights, you could do this and get the same effect, with less hassle, and better voltage to the lights.

Thats is one mod, but i read where the fuse box mod does not work on th 2001 f series. Reading through all those pages now to see if it is mentioned there. Actually the mod i speak of is on page 7.
There is a mod for the 01 where you do the same type thing, but you do it behind the headlight switch.
I think I will get 2 of the harness i posted, 60$ for upgrade harness and relays, which i will use for fog lights. hooked to right headlight
80$ for harness with mod to run low beams with highbeams. hooked to left headlight
http://i.b5z.net/i/u/1632828/i/Upgra...rness_INST.pdf
and i think i will go ahead and put high/low bulbs in my fog lights as well.
Should be like having 4 low beams on low, and 4highs 2 lows on high. A lot of light I think.

I pulled the headlight switch.
took about a 4 inch wire and stripped each end 1/4 inch
shobed one end in with the brown wire, and the other in with the red/black wire,
now running lights are on whenever any others lights are one parking low or high
this is a quick and easy way to do it without and mods, and you can remove it quickly if you find out that you dont like it.
