Hello....I'm in the process of doing the fog light mod so i can have my fog lights on with just parking lights or the headlights. I have got to the point to where I can pull the **** out in all positions. I just need to know which wires to splice. There are 3 wire bundles that plug into the back of the headlight switch...they are not numbered....my vehicle is a 1998 expedition eb 5.4l. thanks for any help.
The wires are numbered but they are real small on the inside of the sleves .
I did this mod also and the number really does not matter . as the color of the wire is all that matters. the numbers change a little depending on the the light options ( such as twilight and delay options .
All that really matters is to splice the brown wire to the white / black striped wire .
This will also let your high beams and fog lamps yo be on at the same time .
After doing this mod I was very happy with the results. Best of all it was totally free.
How about high & low beams and fog lights on at the same time? My '98's switch lever is messed up and I can get all 3 on at the same time. It works great but i would like it to done just by turning on the high beams. My wifes '04 Explorer has great lights compared to my '98 Expy's yellowed lenses.
You would need to use some relays to do that as the stock wiring cannot handle the current load with the highs and lows on for an extended period of time.
Run a separate relay and switch. Use the power from your parking lights for the control circut on the relay. Install another switch for the fog lights. This way they will go off when your main lights go off and you can use them with any combination you want.
You would need to make sure that your truck already has the fog light wiring harness. If so, I would think that it should just be a plug and play type of thing.
How do you tell if your expy has the fog light wiring harness, (ours does not currently have fog lights as an installed option) which is a question my husband and i have been batting around. If your expy started as a xlt, but has many upgrades to it, would that mean i can pull down the o/h consule and find the wiring harness for the EB controls for fuel economy too?
Thanks for your time, I have owned my 2000 exp for 1 week
first, look underneath where the fog lights mount and start searching for a female connector taped out of onto a wiring harness just a few inches above and behind mounts on both sides. If wired, you may be able to find a switch and fog lights w/mounting brackets on ebay just as I did. I actually puchased a repair manual from the local parts store for instructions on removing the switch, simple, but must follow instr. i also purchased fully equipped cosole off of ebay that came off an EB and put the parts in mine, also an easy install. bad news is i haven't been able to locate a wiring harness, almost certain it,s an easy install as well. you must also puchase the compass that connects directly onto the rearview mirror and plugs into the trip monitor.
I'd like to upgrade to the switch that includes fog light setting. It this possible for my expy? The Ford switch is $40.
On my98 I added the factory fog lights with a kit from the dealer. It was strictly a plug and play. Everything was there in the way of wiring and plug-ins.
