Fog Light Mod Question

Hey everybody, I did the foglight mod on my 01 F250 last night, its really sweet having the fogs on with just the parking lights. The only thing i dont like is that they also stay on with the high beams, which probably isnt legal. Is there any way around this?

What fog light "mod" are you referring to? The only "mod" I've done is put 9005 headlight bulbs in my fogs. My fogs already can be turned on with either the parking lights or low beams. I know there's a mod to have the fogs on with the high beams, but the parking lights with fog lights ability should already be there to start with.

On the earlier model trucks you could not turn the fogs on with parking lights. So to remedy this i pulled the switch out and cut a piece of plastic off of it to allow the **** to be pulled out in parking light position. Then you have to jumper the brown wire to the black and white wire. Pretty simply overall. I have heard the by buying a newer switch with autolamp and throwing it in you can bypass all of the wiring stuff. What year is your pickup? Does it have autolamp?

I have a 2003 and it has an autolamp switch (auto, off, parking and lights with a pull-for-fog in parking and lights positions).

I dont know why you couldnt have the fogs on with the high beam, I mean its not legal to have the high beams on with oncomming traffic anyhow so you'd only be using them with no one around so who would even know...

I did the wiring mod on my Ex. The fogs stay on with high beams. I replaced the bulbs with the 55 watt Silverstars. They work great. More like driving lights than fogs.

Brian, do your fogs stay on with the high beams or no? Im considering buying the 03 switch if it has that feature. Thanks!

What do you have to do to get your fog light to stay on with the high beams? I always think the brighter the more i can see the safer

This is the thread I used to do mine, only took about 20 minutes. From my understanding some trucks have different color wires. Im also looking into the possibility the the 04 and up headlamp switch with autolamp will allow you to pull the fog switch on with only parking lights selected, still subject to verification. I just dont want to drop 50 bucks on a switch only to find itll do what ive already done.

The reason the fogs are supposed to go out when the high beams come on is because when the highs are on your eyes focus better on the light that is much farther in front of you if you don't have the distraction of the ground close to you being lit up also. It is a safety thing. It is a shortcomming of the human body, so the Feds decided that you should't have both on at the same time. Same with the low beams and the highs. On the Chevy forum (recent convert) there were several mods to fix this, and also to have low, high andfogs on at the same time.

So does the auto headlight switch "plug n play" into the older SDs like the 2000?

Still awaiting confirmation on whether or not a newer switch will remedy this issue...

Partsguyed shows a fog light kit for an '08. I'm sure he could put one together for you for an earlier truck. Just email him.

You need the lights, harness, and a new headlight switch, and he will need to know whether you have auto headlights or not.

If you use a Wagner 9005XS it's brighter. This one is 65 watts.
