Here is the story...I bought a 97 f350 off a guy who I "believe" had the computer programmed since there was an Edge Evolution programmer on the seat. The only thing missing was the cable that connects the programmer to the data link connector. I called the edge place and they want 75 for the cable. Is there anywhere else i could find one cheaper? the number on the programmer is EEF1000. Thanks
I wouldnt waste you time with it, your money will be better spent taking it to the dealer and having them reflash the PCM to get rid of anything from the edge. Even wit the edge you cant completely remove their program and it will cause other problems with your truck. Just ask around here. Edge may be ok in other truck but in OBS fords it usually messes them up, there are a lot of us in here who will tell you that too.
well the truck was swamped in a river we've just about got all the water out of everything and fixed everything. The PCM was toast (corroded badly) and wouldn't work. I thought that maybe if i could get the cable i could pull the program off the bad computer
Wont matter if you have the cable or not. the edge is not capable of completely removing its own program. The onlu way to completely remove it is to have the whole system cleaned and reflashed by the dealer.

Whoa, take it a little easy on the Edge, it's not completely worthless...
If you contact Bill and Corey Cohron at PHP (Power Hungry Performance), Bill can tell you everything you want to know about the EDGE Evo... He was one of the original programers.
HOWEVER, they are out for a while due to a family medical emergency.
I know Bill and Corey too, The problem is that since bill left Edge has continued to fiddle with stuff, there are edge programmers that work on these trucks they had a part number of 15000 IIRC and they usually work these were the originals that Bill designed. However after Bill left they kept playing, then Edge got bought out a few years ago and things really changed. I write a lot about how bad edge is for OBS based on experience and what they didi to mine and what they (edge) told me was the problem(s) it all kept coming back to "you need to replace your computer, and you wont have any problems" that doesnt hold true as a replacement computer wont be any different than the one that in there now. The technology didnt change neither did the programming. That and "your biggest problem is its a Ford as that is the only vehicle we make a system to reflash back to stock because its the only one we regulary have problems with." That to me means they need to work the bugs out before trying to sell their products unproven. Also for what its worth ask around here who all has had problems and got rid of their edge and watched their truck improve dramatically especially if the reflashed their PCM at the dealer afterwards. Try that and see for yourself, then you can call me a liar. I have another truck that has an edge in it now and Im afraid to mess with it for fear of screwing it up too, and we use that truck to regularly pull our race trailer. Ill NEVER do business with them again and I used to be a beleiver in their stuff. I used to recommend them to people now all I do is warn people about them.
I personally recommend most people get a chip from PHP as I trust Bill more than anyone else to do tunes (no offense to TW, or dp) but Bill is where it started at and has been at longer than anyone. The only way Id suggest a edge tuner is if you sent it in to Bill and had had him reprogram it for you with good tunes.
Chill, Nobody is calling you a liar, neither was I intending to alienate you. I had run the Edge EVO EEF1000 in my truck (EEF1000) as well (and I still have it as I use it to read codes). I don't argue that Edge has gone downhill, or that Edge support leaves a LOT to be desired, or that a chip is far better than a programmer...
I pulled the Edge out of my truck for two reasons:
1) Reprogramming evertime I needed a different tune was a HUGE PITA
2) It WAS beginning to cause problems with my PCM (i.e. would not flash consistently).
I am not looking to get into a pi$$ing match here.
Would I recomend the EDGE over a chip? No, never.
Would I recomend it over stock? Well, if the price were right (very cheap or free), If you are not having issues with your PCM and did not need or want to reflash consistently, then probably, as my truck definately ran much better than stock.
The EDGE programming (tunes) never caused me any problems, and if I never wanted to retune or make additional mods, it would have been great.
As far as reflashing back to stock, I had no issues with the truck once it flashed back to stock either (I don't know if the stock program is the exact Ford flash or not, you would probably have to ask Bill).
HOWEVER, when I talked to Bill about getting a PHP chip, the first thing he said was that he could change the Tunes on the EDGE etcetera, and that it may be worth doing... that was until we got into further discussion on the PCM issues. From what I have heard, as the PCM gets older, reflashing can become a issue (and not just for the Edge).
Best option is definately a chip from PHP, TW or DP Tuner.
i had tons of edge issues as a ford diesel guy, never saw so many melted injector tips as i did with edge equipped vehicles. the 6.0's were really bad for it.
