About 3 weeks ago I completed EGR cooler delete, new oil cooler and gauges. I noticed yesterady if I hammer the truck from a rolling start or even a dead stop, I can pull a max of 25 psi boost. However, if I am on the freeway around 45-50mph and really start putting my foot into it, the gauge will get up to 30+. Is this normal. If so, I have a bit of an issue, I just installed a 30 psi isspro EV2 gauge. Any help would be appreciated.
i have the same gauges. i have to check my boost gauge. but sounds close to normal. the only question or consern i have that you can get more boost rolling than hammering it. i never watch my boost , i watch fuel pressure ..... and pyro
I have a straight stock 04 with the 03 engine. I only get between 20 and 22psi of boost no matter what I do. Plenty of power and smooth so maybe this is about normal for my case. No chips or anything other than a coolant filter. Maybe this will keep me for blowing the head gaskets anyway. 96k on it a purring like a kitten. From the dead stop there is a bit of turbo lag but that seems normal and the boost comes on nice and smooth as well as dropping off when the pedal is released. 20 -21 mpg on the highway at 65-70 with no a/c on.
if your getting 30+ on a stock engine then you have a problem and will be getting HG's soon.
Are you suggesting that an overboost would cause the heads to lift? Anyone know the parameter for setting the turbo charger overboost DTC. I will try to get a scanner hooked up next week to see if I have any codes hanging around. When I installed the gauges 2 weeks ago, I swear I tried every type of driving condition to see what my max boost was. As I recall, I could not pull more then 25psi. But yesterday on the expressway, if I just kind of rolled on the gas from about a 45-50 roll the gauge would start coming up steady to 23-25 and with just a bit more throttle would jump down to 30. Truck otherwise runs great.
In your 1st post you stated 30+. You need to get your facts straight. Stock 6.0 is normally max at around 26 to 28 with a load. 30+ and you will be getting HG's to repeat myself.

Sounds like my 20-23 with no added weight to the truck is just about were it should be. Good news.

No need to be argumentative.. .. My boost gauge has a max of 30, hard to tell over that. I have not had the camper hooked up since the gauges went it so I have no data towing. I will take the truck out again tomorrow to get some more readings. I find it strange that off a dead roll I can't get over 25, but I can on the expressway by rolling on it. Either way, I think i should have got the 40 psi gauge. By the way, what would cause one turbo to produce more then another other then getting stuck.
Like stated above if you are boosting 30 PSI or more HG could be in the future. that much boost will lift the heads right off the block. What are your EGT's and where is the probe located?
this is what happens when your TC is locked up and you roll into it. Mine does the same thing. i rolled into it this week and saw about 34 psi (thank goodness for ARP's.) if you tap your brakes before you roll into it, you'll unlock the TC and you shouldn't lug it to bad. For some reason, i can't do that in the tune I'm running so i'm wondering if something's wrong it...
