Randy wants nothing to do with my truck...except when it snows 3 feet, or he needs to pull something heavy.
In fact, I find myself fixing his POS Jeep when the occasion calls for it.
As far as money for mods, I don't ask for permission.
Man where were you when I was lookin. lol I always have said that it is easier to ask for forgiveness rather than permission. I try not to spend to much to often though. I try to spread it out.
My wife doesn't mind the time I spend working on my truck. I give her and my daughter a lot of time so she doesn't really say to much. As for the mods I really have to talk her into it. I always use the it will "give me better gas mileage" excuse. Has worked so far lets see how far I can milk it for. She is happy that I can wrench though saves us money.
what more could a guy ask for? where were you when i was single?
probably terrorizing an ex-boyfriend.

Now that you mention it, I don't ask for permission...for anything.
The wifeys need to realize how valuable your wrenching skills really are.
For those of you who have wives who have an issue with it: next time one of the fleet breaks, let her take it to a professional mechanic to get a quote. That'll be the end of discussion.
Nolan I didn't know you had a GF. I'm kinda hurt that I didn't know, and slightly disappointed that I haven't seen pictures.
It was my wife's idea to go look at the Ford PSD we wound up buying. She helps wrench sometimes. It was my wife's idea to sell my immaculate 1969 Mercedes Benz 220 diesel 4-speed sedan and buy a 1986 F-250 6.9L diesel Supercab 4x4 that's lacked maintenance. She's helped me wrench on the '86 quite a bit. We just got back from changing the injector return lines. She was my tool bitch and light holder today.
My wife knows when my legs are sticking out from under the truck or the hood, she brings me out cold beer when its hot out or hot coffee when its cold out, and she listens to my cussin & complaining, knowing full well how much I love busting my knuckles. If I really get in a bind ( only been 20 or 30 times over the years) she'll even throw on a pair of coveralls. Can't ask for much more than that.
So long as the bills are paid...she doesn't care. I got her what she wanted for a toy... 76 Triumph Spitfire. So my time goes to both her lil' car and the truck. She buys her parts and I buy mine.
Then she laughs as I come into the house to wash up gleaming about the fix that I just did.
My wife knows how much my truck means to me and how I like it to be "just right". She used to question my spending on my mods. But we bought her a large garden shed & laptop and now that I'm spending time on her projects, too, she doesn't bother me about the mods anymore. She even encourages me to to whatever it takes for me to be happy with my truck. Sounds like an open ended invitation, for some more mods, to me.
My wife helped me change the clutch on the 5.0 Mustang, and she's helped me sporadically on the maintenance issues for our rigs, but she's not "into" the mechanical end of things like I am, so it's not like her choice of fingernail polish is Ford grease.
My wife has offered to go out and help me many times even though its really not her thing. I could spend all I want on the truck she doesn't care because she knows its just to make it run better or to protect her (deerslayer). Its paid for and although I would love a crew cab she realizes that I will not get rid of the one I have.
Great thread idea! I don't really have a significant other, but the next one will enjoy what I do or get used to it. I love my toys and my dog and those aren't flexible subjects.
My ex girlfriend knew me back in the days when I was racing my 01 Mustang. I worked a graveyard shift to help pay for school and any extra money wandered right into my Mustang. Ended up getting a N/A 4.6 to throw down just over 300 rwhp at the wheels. Not very much in the grand scheme of things but in 2005 this was big for the N/A racing brackets.
She never complained because she got her dinners and movies when she wanted them. She also enjoyed riding around in it because of the attention a bright yellow Mustang with a nasty set of cams would attract.
On my nights off from work I would typically go out in the garage and find something to do. She kept a normal sleep schedule so while she slept I considered it free car time. Eventually she got so tired of me being out in the shop through the night, she joined me. She came out at like 2am with a couple Cokes and some food and asked me what she could do to help me. After that she started spending many all nighters working on this or that. She definitely transformed into a car girl, always making sure the car was clean or clearing off leaves from it any time she saw it. I loved her for that.
She was awesome for all 4 years, until I found out she had been sleeping with my other car-guy friends.
On the bright side the girl I met this summer was the only person with me when my truck windowed the block in a river crossing. She helped me push it and clean it after months of not using it. She really wanted to help me work on it but she had to go back to California to finish school before I had the funds to work on it.
She loves the truck and thus has a bright future with me.
Two pics, only one of the GF at the time. As "proof" she was at Carolina Dragway on the phone with her father, who lent us his GMC so that I could run drag radials without fear of snapping an axle and not getting home.
Said girl.
Said Mustang, right before the clutch went kaboom and I parted most of the car out to go back to school.
My girl has a 2007 Mustang that she lowered with Eibach springs, changed the wheels & tires, added sideskirts (painted body color) and keeps that thing SPOTLESS. She also knows that it's not worth a lick in ANY kind of snow.... and is moving with me to CO. So for the short term, she's considering a little Subaru, but eventually wants a lifted Excursion (7.3 of course!!). She also knows I always have my eye out for a CC Dually 4x4 PSD.
As for wrenching... light duty stuff. She's a bit "girly" but has her head on right 99% of the time. She's more in to the 'fluff' e.g. wheels, tires, tint. I'm more likely to get (and spend money on) a bypass oil system than wheels, but hey, it's all good.
I pay my half of the bills, and what I do with the rest is my business. Period. It works quite well. Like Lisa said, I don't ask permission to do anything, and neither does she, but we work well together.
