Hi, I have a friend that isn't online and has seen what a great you guys have been for me on here and wanted me to post a question for him.
He has a 1999 Ford F-350 dually 2wd crew cab with a 7.3L turbo diesel.
When he starts the truck, about a gallon or so of fuel dumps onto the ground under his truck up towards the front.
When we looked under it it is coming out of a line that just hangs down, like maybe a filter bowl drain and some sort of drain line.
Has anyone had any experience with this? I'm at work now, but will check to see if maybe the fuel filter bowl drain is open or not, but it only does it when he first starts the truck up. After that it is fine.
It is the fuel bowl drain line, it has a yello handle and it is on the back of the fuel filter, turn that 90* and your leak should go away..That is what is hooked up to the hose you are describing, I just cant answer why it would stop leaking.
Thanks for the quick replies. I figured it would be the drain valve. As for the reason why it stops don't know either. Maybe the sudden burst of pressure is just letting it blow by the Orings and then it will seal back as pressure equalizes....don't know. Either way, we will follow the link above and rebuild it. Thanks.
I have this job to do now. When I was in Austin I could smell a little fuel, and sure enough, it's coming from the drain valve. I guess I'll call Bob...
Even when I used the rag method, I ended up using the MF method trying to start the screws blindly in the holes for the bottom two. The engineers obviously did not consider this a "routine" evolution! IIRC the screws are a Torx T-20 and there are 4 of them. Don't overtighten them or you won't be able to operate the valve!
