I was looking at craigslist and saw this add. Is it really one of one made. It does not look any different than ours to me. I really do not know that much about what is rare or not on these trucks so I thought I would ask.
In my mind, the VIN doesn't prove squat; ask the guy for a pic of the Safety Certification
label on the driver's side door jamb, it'll have the DSO code as well as a few other codes
that are more telling than the VIN. If you ask me, I don't see anything special or exotic
about the thing - certainly, not enough to make it worth the $8,000 the guy is asking for.
Sure, maybe it was special-ordered from the factory (my father used to do that when he
bought new cars) but I don't see anything that couldn't be ordered by anyone else on any
other trucks.
And, it doesn't have power mirrors.
Depending on mileage and overall wear, I'd offer him up to maybe $3,500.
Any truck that you bought at the time where you personally checked the options could be considered "special ordered from the factory". The only thing that I saw that might be somewhat rare would be the 8 track (which you would probably take out if it was going to be a daily driver). Otherwise it is a 400/c6/NP208, likely a Dana 70 rear or 10.25 and a Dana 50 front.
He says 6.6(400) engine ,but the vin says truck came with 300 6, and it came from the factory with a natural gas conversion.nothing special.I would give him $ 800.00 for it.I love how people think their junk is worth a fortune.

That's not what I got; I used some online decoder I found someplace via google
(FTE's doesn't seem to be there anymore) and it identified it as a 6.6/400. I'm too
lazy to go look in the books, but if there's a Z in whatever position holds the
engine identification, that's a 6.6/400 M-block.

engine code Z is indeed the 400CID. As long as the body is rust free I'd think it could be worth as much as 4000. Wouldnt it have a dana 60 front?
Hey I have a really rare truck. bought it from a little old lady that only dove it to church and the truck pulls on Sunday and its a 2wd with a 205 t-case how bout that
Oh by the way when the original trans broke I had a trans and t-case out of a 78 in the garage just wanting to be put in something so now I have a 2wd truck with low range.

Me too. My truck has dents and rust in places no other truck can exactly match. In the trashed interior it has grease stains and cigarette burns that are quite unique in their own right. Couple that with the hillbilly modifications and it's a one of a kind.
Would it being a single cab F-350 make it unusual. I have seen tons of 250's but not sure about 350's. I am not looking to buy it. I was just wondering if it was just me not thinking it was unique.
I had an '82 F350 Reg. cab 4X4 for landscapeing back then, I also ordered it from Ford and had all options plus A/C but no 8 track, truck was a true work horse.
It's a nice truck, however, especially for an F350 which usually get beat to crap since they're used to work (or at least, they used to be). Worth $8k? As everyone else said, not a chance. Still could fetch a couple grand, though. It seems to be in decent shape and is very original looking.
Special ordering vehicles was no unique thing. The guy is trying to sell snake oil.
All the options he listed as unique were VERY comon options.
95% original is also a fib. It doesn't have the correct chrome for the outside, and Lariats came with carpet, not mats as standard. The rear slider is also wrong, unless the dealer had one of the 1973-1981 kits left on their shelf. Not uncomon for a 1982 though.
