Couple things flipped the BS flag. How do you put $4000 into a truck and it be %95 original? I know things wear out like hoses, belts ect. He said nothing about a new rebuilt on motor, trans, T-case ect...
second PEOPLE THAT TYPE IN ALL CAPS ARE MAKING A SUBCONSCIOUS EFFORT TO CONVINCE YOU. Not letting the truck sell itself.
Its a workhorse with 180,000 miles and it was all spent driving to the grocery store?
ANY combination of options is going to be harder to locate specifically. If I wanted a red 1976 Chevette with a full size spare, radio delete and air conditioning, it will be hard to find. Probably for good reason.
Finally, rare doesn't always mean desirable? Things like a 428 SCJ mustang are rare because they were expensive at the time. I'm sure there are non-fastback I-6 mustangs that are more rare.
Finally, it's TACH, not TACK. Go to any states craigslist ads, there are always 3-4 ads like that all the time.
In his emails to me, all he ever talked about was the motor. He never once mentioned any other options, further pointing the needle deeper into the BS meter.
What is so special about the engine in this truck?
Nothing! And no, IMO the 400 doesn't compare to either engines you list; I have owned them all. Let the flaming begin...
I agree. I had one in my 67. Very slow for a big block. I use to have a poster that showed all of the ford motors. The 400 had 25 more horsepower than the 302.
I had a 400 in a 78 f250and it was a good running and strong pulling engine(not as good as my 460)but is was really thirsty just as bad,if not worse than my 460.IMO
The 400 is suppressed from the factory, it wasn't originally designed to operate in the
scaled-back fashion in which it was released. It has the longest stroke of any Ford engine ever, it makes a boatload of torque, and is a great truck engine once it's built right.
REAL DANG CLOSE, something like 3.98" and I guess that would effectively be 4", but
the 400 officially has 4.00 and beats the 300 by a few hundredths of an inch.
