1973/74: First Arab Oil Embargo. // 1979: Second Arab Oil Embargo.
How many people of reasonable intelligence actually believe there was a fuel shortage in 1973/74 or 1979?
The whole thing was engineered by those nice folks at OPEC to raise the price of oil.
Before the first embargo, one gallon of regular here in LA LA Land cost between 25-35 cents. When the embargo ended, the price had risen to a buck.
Two indie oil companies were caught dumping tanker trailer loads of gasoline into the LA River (if you can call it a river since it's nothing more than a concrete channel).
All the fuel tanks of all the closed gas stations had full tanks. When the fuel glut reached epic proportions, along with the newly increased fuel prices...the first oil embargo ended.
By the time the second embargo ended, one gallon of regular was a buck twenty five.
btw: If some of y'all think $1.00/$1.25 a gallon is cheap, you're living in a dream world. Back then the US dollar was worth...at least...75% MORE than it is today.

Well I do believe there were a few politicians, traders, jobbers, oil tycoons that are rich today because of those times. Hell lets throw in lawyers & insurance companys too. Basically anyone with big money invested in oil. Lets exploit all the American tax payers & milk em dry!

I still do not get it - I live about 55 miles away from Chevron headquarters/refinery, yet we pay the highest prices.......suspicious
I live a province that produces oil and natural gas.most of the oil companys are not Canadian ,and is shipped south of the border.then we have to buy it back, were have the highest gas prices in Canada .and much higher than the US.

Sounds like when I go to the Detroit branch for work. I pass the big Marathon refinery on the way there. However as soon as I cross state line from Ohio the price of gas jumps about 30 cent a gallon.
Opec wants our gas to be around $5 a gallon, and they will stoop to just about anything to get it there.
It almost caused an economic colapse the first time they tried it two years ago...
what our gov. should do is regulate the price of oil, like they do milk, eggs, apples etc...
Regulate gas prices down to $1.50 a gallon, and if you cant sell it for that, tough... let the oil company take the hit for a change like the dairy farmer, and produce growers do...

amen to that.but i highly doubt it will ever happen.
Amazing how it can go from $1.80 +/- to $3.10 in less than a year and everywhere in between. Buy a new car to get better mileage - but most of us can not afford one. So the people that can afford a car save on gas, while the rest, who could use every cent saved on gas, but can not afford another car, are forced to drive a car with worse economy, spend more on gas, and be poorer - the circle.
this is exactly how the email came to me, i did not alter it in any way, shape or form.
