I use to have a 2000 CR 250. Great bike. I loved how light it was and how reliable. Thing started first kick everytime, never fouled a plug and had great power. I would love it have one again just for a woods/play bike. I sold it to buy an 07 KX450. That was a great bike too. Raced and beat the crap out of it and never had a problem, won me many races. I hope my 09 is just as good.
I didn't even see the rust until you pointed it out. I have read on here that the chrome trim pieces contribute to the rust on the wheel openings. Maybe you should remove them permanently when you fix the openings.

I have owned the bike since 02 and I have only changed the plug twice. It gets ridden a lot running a 36:1 ratio of redline oil.
I rode a CRF450 once and it has lots of power down low. I was getting it out of a gulley for another guy who couldn't do it. I rode it up on the back tire only.hahaha I really missed the snap of the power band though.

Awesome, I love the 2 strokes too. But this CRF was such a good deal I couldnt pass it up. My buddy has an 05 CR250R and id trade my 4 stroke anyday for it.
In California, if you had an 03 or newer bike you couldn't ride it in 75% of the state from May til October. So I never upgraded my bike. Now that I live in South Carolina, I will be looking for an 07. The thumpers have a lot of power and are fun to ride, but I love the powerband of the 2 stroke and I have never seen a thumper start on the first kick cold. Every once in a while I will see a warm one start on the first kick but normally it is 3-4 kicks before it starts. My 2 stroke starts on the first kick 95% of the time and the other 5% is on the second kick.
Yeah I hear ya. My CRF will start within 3 kicks cold. And within two when its hot, as long as I use the hotstart and its at TDC. As nice as the 4 stroke is in the woods. I still miss the 2 stroke.

My 07 kx450 always started first kick when warm. Never had to use the hot start button either. I got the hole shot quite a few times, because almost all of my races were dead engine starts. You would be surprised though if you go to dead engine start races. Everybody works very hard to make sure their bike starts first kick. I would say about 90% of them do. My 09 starts good too, unless I stall it. Then i have to kick and kick. Ticks me off because it is fuel injection too! That is when I miss my 07.
Last February, I tried to start a buddys CRF450R in Oregon at the dunes. He kicked it about 20 times, I kicked it about 20 times and the 3rd guy kicked it about 10 times before it started.
My CR started on the FIRST kick. I have seen many instances where the 4 stroke is a bear to start. Not as hard as that CRF that day, but harder than my CR on it's worse day.
How many kicks to start your bike when it is dead cold?
yeah the passenger side is worse. there is a hole rusted through above the wheel well. i dont know if bondo will work. i might have to go down south and pick up a bed. hmm ive never heard that. it makes sense though. i wonder if they trap moisture between the trim and the fender
