how much oil do you burn through between changes?

The gassers I've owned had almost no oil usage (if any) between changes. A friend of mine was using almost 1/2 gallon between changes on his 1/2 ton Chevy (this was quite a few years ago) and took it to the dealership with his concern. The dealership told him that was "normal" and that they considered anything up to 1qt every 1K miles normal for a gas engine. Personally, if my engine (let alone a gas one) was using a GALLON every 4k miles, I would be concerned. I just fixed a noticeable oil leak on my HPOP (non-serviceable plug and HPO discharge line , but that's another story) and I was still adding less than 1qt/1K with oil puking into the valley!
