Oil Filter Napa Gold 1734

Had a question about the Napa Gold oil filter for my 2002 F350. I have always used the MC #1995 oil filter during each oil change, with no complaints or concerns I know it's a good choice. I decided to price the Napa Gold 1734 at Napa which I understand is also a good oil filter. The counterperson quoted me $28.00. I said did you say $28.00 for (1) filter she said yes, I said no and said goodbye. Is this the going price for the Napa Gold? I can buy almost (3) MC oil filters at WM for the price of (1) Napa Gold. There can't be much difference in the quality of the (2) filters I guess?

Thanks

I'm not sure but that sounds ridiculous. I know some people don't like fram but thats what I use. Its cheap and has a grip easier for a tight area. Sometimes the gaskets fall off so you have to be careful of that. As for the napa gold i'm not sure but its probably not worth it in my opinion.

Mike,

I hear what your saying. I have no problem with continuing to use the MC #1995 oil filter. In fact, I still have (5) new ones for future oil changes. I think it's hard to beat the MC oil filter for the 7.3's, but was surpised with Napa's quote of $28.00

I use the napa 1734 on all of our 7.3's (always have)

But not at $28.00!

Also WM will be cheaper than going to an auto parts anyway.

The fuel filters are just as pricey. Some Napas are better than others. We have two near each other. The pricing is very different between the two. I know which one not to go to.

That's about the right range for a NAPA filter. That's why so many people here use the Motorcraft one.

Like I said earlier, I have no problems with the MC oil filter. I was really surprised Napa was firm on thier price of $28.00, I guess it's still MC for me at WM for $10.00

what do you guys think of the K&N oil filter. i have thought of using it in the past because it has a 1" nut on the bottom of it, which i think would be a lot easier.

agg_bagg...easier than what???? I have a 99 SD 250 too, and I could change my oil and filter without needing a lift and only the oil nut wrench...so, again, easier than what...and what the heck is that dumb *** nut on the fram filter for...a leak between oil changes...like we don't have enough of them....hahahaha

in the past i have usually taken my truck to jiffy lube. just recently i changed the oil for the first time myself. i couldn't find a oil filter wrench big enough. I realize if i were to find one it wouldn't be a problem because there is a fair amount of room around the filter. but i already had the oil drained from the motor. and i couldn't get the filter off. i ended up beating a screw driver thru the old filter and turning it off..... Let say that pizzed me off. so when i saw the K&N filter and it had the nut on the bottom of it. i thought that would be easier if you couldn't find the right oil filter wrench, because it takes a standard 1" wrench.

I don't even use a wrench on mine. To put it on or take it off. I spin it until it just touches the block, then one turn more by hand. Never had a leak and never had a stuck filter. I still punch my filter to drain it though -- much neater than letting all that oil run down the side of it.

Wink

I use what I believe is a GREAT filter on mine-a Purolator PURE ONE unit which is about $15. at my local Advance Auto Parts, this IS NOT the standard White filter they have, it is GOLD and the whole thing is textured, and acording to Purolator it filters to 13 grams and are said to be 99.9% efficient. the number on this PURE ONE unit is PL44872-(I also use their PURE ONE drop in filter in my stock LATE '99 air box and acording to BLACKSTONE my air filter is working well!)

I actually opened up a Fram filter and wasn't impressed with the innards. The filter media is very thin compared to others that I have opened up.
