how much oil do you burn through between changes?

The other night i checked my oil because i changed it about 3500-4000 miles ago,i dont not the exact number because i change my own oil and i dont write the miles down when i do it.But it was down about 1.5 quarts,is that normall?that seem like alot of oil to me i dont have any leaks that make it to the ground,i have a couple spots that are a little damp. The only time my truck has blue smoke is on start up when its below freezing but it goes away as soon as i start to drive and get the cylinders warmed up.Let me no what u guys think. Also when i changed my oil last i swichted to napas fleet plus oil, because there was a post on hear were a place tested a bunch of oil's and that rated way better than rotella 15-40.what a difference my truck runs alot quiter smoother and it fires up easyer in the cold with out any romps i was pretty impressed with it.My oil also stayed cleaner longer it didnt start to turn black untill about 3000 miles when the rotella would turn black after about 1000 miles. Not to mention that the napa oil is alot lighter on the wallet,it cost me 55 bucks for my oil change with the napa oil and a 25 dollor nappa oil filter when its about 75 for rottela and a ford filter from wally world.Just thought i would let you guy's no about it.If any of u try the napa oil let me no how you make out with it.

I bought my truck used with 44k miles and it has always used about a quart/3000 miles. No oil leaks. I switched from Rotella 15w-40 to the 5w-40 Synthetic a few years ago and still see the same average amount of oil use. I change my oil ~ every 9k miles with the synthetic.

Mine will use more than that but it has a 4.88 rear axle.
Higher engine rpms will always use more oil.
It will use more oil on a long trip pulling the trailer vs the same amount of miles driving around town.
When you start using more than one quart every 1000 miles and there are no external leaks anywhere, that is the limit IMO.

I'll have around a 1/2 gallon disappear every 5000 miles, mixed driving and towing.

I'll reclaim almost a quart of that back with my ccv trap in the same mileage.

I hardly see any loss at all between oil changes.

I have not needed to add any oil between changes in the 30,000 miles I have owned my truck.

Mine is always 1 quart low. Should be better now that my leak is fixed. I never add to it though.

I seem to keep just about all of my oil between changes. I change every 5000 miles.

I lose about 2 qts between 3k and 5K but I don't lose any between 0 and 3K. 1.5 qts might seem like a lot but when you put it in perspective with a 16qt capacity I wouldnt give it too much thought. I agree with Kwik...more than a qt every 1k is excessive and where I start to be bothered by it, not that I would stop driveing it if that was the only symptom but I would start saving for a rebuild and trying to determine where it was going.

Depends on how hard I run it and if I tow/haul.

Anywhere from none to 1/2 gallon between changes (5K). I am running Chevron Delo dino and my truck seems to like it better than Shell Rotella (saw about the same burn rate with Rotella).

But I do have 191K on the powerplant so I think it's well within the range of acceptable.

I use to change my oil with synthetic every 5K miles, would usually take 1 - 1.5 qrts in between changes. Now that I don't drive the truck too much I will be changing the oil once a year (probably 1 or 2k miles on oil in that time), I hopefully will not have any loss to worry about in between changes.

You use 16 quarts? I thought it held 15 quarts.
