nothing official but i took the plunge for synthetic. this is a video of my truck on teh motorcraft 15w40 with a cold start this morning, 26 degrees. i have changed to shell rotella t6 5w40 full synthetic and am currently cold soaking the truck, i will go out later and see if it starts any different or smokes less. stay tuned for redneck results
we will see, i wasnt happy about the price, i am over 100 bucks in an oil change if i stick with it. my motorcraft oil has never let me down and as you can see in the video it fires right up and is repsonsive. that oil was overdue at a little over 6000 miles on it.
i need more fuel to do that....lol. i put a bolt in each side for more counterweight, it gave them the "ting ta ting ting" at idle but i dont think they both stand straight up when i am on it hard.
i dont see why you cant switch back to conventional. its just oil. time will tell on my variables. we will have a cold start here soon, dont know how well the video will turn out in the dark but we will see
Problem I see Joe, is the fact that down to about 15 degrees I never really saw a difference in starting, although sometimes it would romp for a few seconds.
The big difference is at the lower tempatures.
This was a cold start video from this morning. was around -10 last night and about 2 degrees when I started it. Only had the glow plugs on for about 25 seconds.
we have had many days in the single digits and my truck always fires right up, smokes a little, but no issues, i'm sure i will have plenty more really cold days this winter so we will see how it does on synthetic
I tried the rotella syn about a year ago. I ran it for 5k miles and did an UOA, iron and lead were slightly about average. I ran it to 7500 miles, iron and lead rose even higher blackstone was getting nervous so i dumped it. Ive been running motorcraft 15/40. Im at 5000 miles on it and the iron and lead are half the ppm as it was with the RTS, Im now inline with universal averages. Blackstone said it looks good so im running it longer. Sure i miss the fast summer like starts but i can deal with 3 seconds of romps for a cheaper oil change.
I really like the stacks. They look and sound awesome. That turbo sounds sweet too. I may try to figure out a way to do stacks too.
Yea the passenger side one is crooked, but im too damn lazy right now to fix that. Ill wait til it gets warmer and all the snow is out of my bed and off my driveway.
It sucked putting the stacks on yesterday in the snow... Laying on the snow to put the connetions on. Thank god for Carhartts and sweatpants under your jeans....
