2000 f250 psd 245k but well taken care of. Was running last night and died. then started again this morning but now won't start just cranks and cranks....the service engine soon light came on. please help
How did it act when it stalled last night? Did it stall again this morning? Is your engine oil full? Does the tach bounce while cranking? Any smoke out the tailpipe while cranking?
Ok, when you switch the ignition to the on position, can you hear the fuel pump? Do you usually hear it? (If no, turn on the ignition, then quickly exit and listen right under the driver's seat. If you don't hear it, that's a problem. When you're cranking the engine, does the tach move? Is your oil level good?
Do you have a Digital Multi Meter (DMM)? We'll wan't to do a couple things with that. What is the voltage of the batteries?
Can you tell us more about what was going on when it died (what it sounded like, where it was, temp, recent fuel up???)
If the tach does not come up while cranking on a 2000 truck, the it sounds like you've got a CPS problem. I'd double check, but if you can crank for 10 seconds and the tach stays at 0, then head to Ford or IH and get yourself another CPS.
not sure last night it just died. this morning it idled a little fun but was fine after that. tach doesn't bounce and no smoke thanks
Might need to try swapping out the Camshaft Position Sensor (CPS), you know, the spare you keep in the dash. JK, if you don't have one, have you had the recall for the CPS done yet?

Just be sure to get one from Ford or International, it should cost around $25. We've heard about too many bad experiences with ones from the local parts stores. Here's a link with photos on how to change the CPS Welcome to guzzle's CPS R&R Web Page<

A 10mm socket/wrench and a screw driver to pry it out and about 10 minutes to do it. It's on the passenger side front of the engine by the water pump.
