In Colorado, 4x4 not coming on...

Took the family to Co for Christmas and now I can't get my 4x4 to engage. I have manual locking hubs and have locked them but when I switch the dash switch to 4x4, I don't hear any clicking or see the indicator light up on the dash. Where should I start?

2002 F250 Lariat 4x4 Crew Cab

Thanks!

Relays... Hi-Lo and Lo-Hi. If you don't have any on hand, start in 2Hi as normal, open hood, have Mama do the deed on the dial, while you tap on the tops of the relays. Can't tell you how many times that's save me. (But I roll about 4 deep now with relays and micro-relays on the ready! )

Well Ford changed where stuff was located between our trucks, but mine are under the hood close to the brake fluid reservoir. Should be a two relay mount separated from the other stuff. (you may have two twin relay mounts, one for the trailer tow stuff, other for 4x4 stuff) If you see those relays there, one set will probably be the one, you shouldn't even have to take the covers off, just tap on the tops of both with a gerber or screw driver or something while the switch is being activated. Hope that works.

If it does work, get some new relays, because your probably going to have the same problem trying to DISENGAGE the 4x4!

I found 1 fuse for 4WD on a 2002:

#111 30A Maxi Fuse 4WD/Shift on the fly.

If you don't have an owner's manual you can download one HERE.

This pic is from a wiring diagram. See bottom right corner bordered in red. Says the relays are in P113 Aux Relay Box 3. I have no idea where that box is. Maybe someone with an 02 or 03 will chime in.

Don't know why I didn't think of it earlier but I have AE with me. I hooked it up and it's throwing P1865 Transfer Case Contact Plate Short to Ground and P1876 Transfer Case 2-Wheel Drive Solenoid Circuit Failure.

Maybe the shift motor connector has come loose.

Try pulling the shift motor as well. Clean it and try again. They are known to get gummed up. You should be able to activate it connected to the harness but not in the TC and see if it is working.

Where abouts are you in Colorado? If ya get stuck, depending on where you are I may be able to come out and lend a hand.

We're in Pagosa Springs. I don't really have a good place to work on it here, we brought the travel trailer so we're in an RV park. There's a mechanic that lives/works at this park that is going to take a look at it tomorrow so hopefully we'll get it worked out.

Well you are about 4 hrs from me but if it comes down to it, I might be able to manage something.

Thanks for the offer. Hopefully the mechanic will get it worked out today. If not, I've got a bed full of snow so the traction is better now. I'd rather have 4x4 but, I can make do without it if I have to. Worst case, I'll just go buy a set of chains.
