ESOF not workie

Buddy's 2000 F350 cc sb 4x4. Switch in 4hi, no light on the dash, hubs and front drive shaft spins by hand. He checked the fuse (think its #17), and the kicker is even manual lock doesn't work. Cant hear the t-case locking in with ignition switch on. I have a hunch, but would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks much.

The transfer case on that is electrically driven. Get under there have him throw the switch and see if the electric motor does anything. Tap on it lightly if it doesn't. Check the wires, etc. If it does move, then there are much bigger problems inside I would think.

Jason, I'm thinking that since his hubs aren't locking in using the manual lock, its a problem with the hubs. What has me confused is why no light on the dash. We have not chased wired yet.

Yeah, I missed that detail. Sorry Matt. Rereading it, it does sound like there is a hub problem if the shafts are spinning freely, but if there is no light on the dash, there is an issue with the T-case as well.

If folks change out their hubs to waren manual locking, do they still have to shift the esof switch to 4x4 to engage the t-case?

Yes, other wise the t-case will not drive the front end.

Hey Matt,

My truck is doing something similar. It first started with the 4X4 light comming on randomly while freeway driving? Now it nolonger comes on when trying to engage while stopped or slow moving? Never hear the transfer case engage? Could you post a reply when you pin your problem down.

I was looking around the front end and noticed the hoses that lead to the hubs need to be replaced. Anyone know the part number for those?

Thanks
Mike

Mike I will once we nail this down. I'm not sure if he's got acouple issues here or not. I'm thinking his hubs aren't working and the t-case actuator is inop.

No part# needed, take one off and head to your auto parts store and tell them you need a few feet of this.I paid about 5 bucks for 6 feet.

ok no lightmost probible reasons are transfer case motor,Relays(up by the master cylinder) or the gem mod,

No lock on the shafts in manual is one or more of the lockouts not working.Which could just need a good cleaning or you could just install warns like I did.

So yes it sounds like you have more then one problem.

I just went thru all this with mine so If you have any questions I dont know it all but I will be happy to help as much as I can.
