If you don't the pulleys pressed on good enough you can eat belts. We've have the same problem with 3800 supercharged blower overdrive pulleys and alternator underdrives, go back and make sure they are cranked down.
B&M makes a like $30 computer shift kit for the E40D, haven't seen it discussed on here, but I've read good reviews elsewhere, I got mine for $20 on craigslist.
What is this thing about the I-6 snorkel? I too wouldn't mind some junkyard power out of my 5.8L.
Also, I too am looking for a timing how-to on the 5.8, never timed a car with a computer. I was going to go to 12* BTDC to stay safe as it won't get many other mods.
basically it gives your engine better airflow if you use a I6 snorkel for your air intake from the box to the rad instead of coming up and sucking air from the crack between the hood and body it takes the air from in front of the radiator
The air intake for the I6/460 are a different design from the 5.0/5.8 equipped F-series/Broncos. Just like the previous reply states, the I6/460 pulls in air directly behind the grille.
This technical writeup covers how to set the timing as well as using a higher output coil, wires, plugs gapped @ .055", cap and rotor: ignition upgrade and timing bump
Cool thanks for the link, doesn't seem too hard to adjust the timing. Sounds like I only want to be around 12 degrees, not the 13-13.5 with my stock ignition.
As far as throttle reponce goes. Try a lighter torque converer, a larger throttle body, High performance ignition system. The torque converter might be a tricky one with out increasing stall speed greatly. But it does help
Alright Im going to hijack this thread for a sec. Whats the deal with the I-6 snorkle. And where do I find info. You may resume normal broad cast in 5...4...3...2...1......
See post #18. The I6/7.5L air intake tube draws in air from a hole in the radiator support. This hole is there regardless of which engine you have. The 5.0/5.8L air tube is an L shaped snorkel that draws in air from above the the same radiator support. Not the greatest design to ensure good airflow like the I6/7.5L. I ran across the idea from the Lightning guys several years ago. Neither intake tube is made anymore, best bet is a JY or E-Bay.
