Carburator question

I have a stock 302 with a performance edelbrock intake, HEI distributor, long tube headers. I'm running a 1406 edelbrock electric choke, I was wondering if the carb was to big for a stock 302. I feel like I should be getting better throttle response, does anybody know if I should be going down to a 500 cfm or stay with the 600

I think a 600 should be just fine, especially since its a vacuum secondary. How do your plugs look? If you're running rich, then jet down two sizes and try again.

However summit racings calculator puts your engine between 445-576cfm

My plugs look a little wet, I think I am running a little rich I'll try going down on the jets and see what happens. Thanks for the advice

Not a thread hijack, I promise. Question though; what determines when you need to jet down vs. changing the metering rod? Or both?

I had same set up on my 1973 with a 302 and was awesome. Check plug and vacuum wires. Mine ran perfect with needles out 1 1/2 turns.

metering rods control part throttle fuel on a Edelbrock. Jets are WOT.

An easy way to lean an Edelbrock is swap the rear jets with the fronts, they are two sizes smaller stock
