Cooling down the throttle body!!! Increase HP's

Have a bronco with a 302 EFI, The throttle body has a coolant ling running to the bottom of it. This line is for colder weather like really cold, to heat the engine up faster. Well i put a temp gauge to the line and it was really really hot almost 200 degress running to the throttle body so i took it off put a cap over the nipple to the body and "T" the hose back into the coolant system with no problem. Truck ran a little cooler but performed really well with out that extra heat running to it was really impressed. Also was reading in a mustang mag that you can thermal coat the manifold and lower the temperatures up to 15 degress. I would say from just doing this little project i maybe gained 8hp "maybe". Throttle response is better and I noticed my pinging is gone, too much heat on the motor.

Pretty neat stuff. I wonder if my 89 bronco EFI has this line. You say it goes to the throtle body, but where does it come from??

The coolant lines are there to prevent icing in the throttle body. Icing = stuck throttle.

TB will not ice up at all. Only a carbureted engine will ice up not fuel injection. It has to do with Bernoulli's principle about fuel and air mixing in the venturi, which is a low-pressure area. Since FI does not have a venturi and does not mix gas till the cylinders you cannot get what is called carbureted icing.

Throttle body can ice up in cold climate regions. Condensation from the crankcase can backflow through the manifold, or the PCV valve, and your throttle body sticks. OBDII equipped vehicles are worst offenders.
You warm weather guys are pretty safe. I'm in Michigan and deleted the TB coolant with no ill effects.

Does the 351 have this too? I have a 92 that is kind of anemic and could use any help I could find for it. Also I am in Utah, is this easy to reverse for winter driving? Some kind of shut off valve would be ultimate!

This is a pretty common modification, at least on corvettes. I know pretty much everyone over on the 'vette forum has done it, with no bad effects.

Yah on mine its a line coming from the bottom you cant miss it. I just "T'd" it off back into the coolant system made a nice improvment nothing huge though. but it does help out a little. and since living in AZ doesnt really matter i dont need to heat up the throttle body at all and if i need to its easy to put back in with no problem. Good luck with your mods guys.

Looking at your throttle body its on the left bottom side and has a brass fitting on it and a hose with a small clamp will be there. there is only four hoses to the whole throttle body. Two vacum lines on the right side then on the bottom is the coolant line i found that out with i took it off and pissed hot coolant on me i also ordered a BKK throttle body twin 61mm and i'm gonna have the manifold port matched if you need more info just lemme know i'll post the pics on what i did.

Id like to know as well, have you installed the new throttle body yet. I was looking into one as well but wasnt sure if the computer would like it much. If you could send me some pics id appreciate it.

There are actually 2 lines running to the throttle body. One goes from the top to the radiator, and the other is the source of coolant from the engine somewhere. Simply remove both lines, and connect them together with a plastic fitting.
