I have searched on this page and cant fing the answer I am looking for. Is the detent cable on this truck adjustable. The tranny shifts to quickly and goes into OD pre-maturly and causes the engine to lug at low speeds
You don`t have a detent cable. Your trans should be the E4OD which is electronically controlled.
Are your speedo and tach reading correctly? Might be worth checking for codes.
I dont have any codes, I ahve checked them and checked them. There is a detent cable, but it goes to some kind of brain box over on the driver side fender well.
MOST if not all of the Spark Knock is gone, I found out what my problem was. Someone had adjust the mechaical idle and was set to high. I lowered it down to what sounded like was right and it no longer feels like something is holding it back. it really does run alot better. Is there a correct way to set the idle and at what RPM. I think with it being set to high, was causing the TPS Sensor not to work correctly. I think I also read that on the FuelInjection website.
Anyway, If there was someway to adjust when the OD kicks in, I would surely like to raise that, It seams like it goes in to early and causes the engine to lug at slower speeds.
The cable you describe sounds more like the cruise control cable. You should not manually adjust the idle speed as it upsets the TPS. As you say there are instructions at fordfuelinjection.com for setting the TPS which you should follow.
Your idle problem may be caused by a dirty Idle Air Control valve which you can clean with carb cleaner, details at the above site.
If you want the shift points changed you could get a custom tune shop to reset the computer.
Ok your right about the cruise control cable. that makes sense. I dont have an idle problem, i said that I set it down to what sounds normal and seams to run alot better, someone else before me must have messed with it.
"I am wanting to know how to change the shift points or delay it going in to OD. "
Your high idle may have been a bad/dirty IAC (Idle Air Control) valve, or a vacuum leak. There is no idle adjustment on these trucks, only a throttle stop screw that is factory set and shouldn't ever need to be moved. Its purpose is to keep the butterfly valve in the throttle body from wedging shut.
What speed is your OD kicking in? Under light throttle, both my '93 (with E4OD) and my '90 (with AOD) would shift into OD at 37 MPH. Under WOT, they would both run 3rd gear to over 65-70 MPH, I think.
Well as far as the OD, I guess its working normal, those are about the same numbers I have.
As far as the IDLE STOP screw, I know its not suppose to be adjusted but that does not mean some idiot before me didnt mess with it. Is there a CORRECT method to setting it to where it is suppose to be. The truck really does run alot better after I turned it down some. I would really like to put it back to where the factory set it
