Mine here. Mind you for many where the shifter lever falls out of position it is not always the culprit. When I took mine apart there was no wear on the original detent as compared to the NOS one. The wear was in the shifter itself which I don't have a picture of.
You know I honestly can't recall since I took it apart two years ago. I do remember my collar was chewed up around the roll pin opening and needed to source another automatic collar.
You should be able to slide the shift collar and shifter off as an assembly as I did with my '66 COM last week. I can't see there would be any major difference with your '64.
The tip (end) of the shift lever fits into a hole in the shift tube. So how the hell can you remove the shift collar with the shift lever attached?" 1961/64 uses a different A/T shift collar than 1965/77. 1978/79 is different again.
Shadow, all 6 of the trucks I have owned have been 1965's and 1966's. Mine just slid off as shown. I have no doubt right quick you would have figured out what ND is sounding off about once you removed the top assembly that houses the turn signal switch.
Ive got all the parts. Im replacing the turn signal harness, horn ring, shift detent, and fixing anything else I find in there that needs fixing.
Since the wheel is going to be off Im pulling the cluster and doing some more work back there. My neutral start wiring is disconnected for some reason and I want to figure out why my gen and oil lights don't work. When I bought the truck there were gauges, I think the wiring is gone. The fuel and temp gauges still work. I bought the oil sending unit and a t-fitting so I can run the light and gauge if I can figure the wiring out.
Its just easier to work back there without the wheel and shifter in the way.
