this 6.9 vacuum pump has the old belt pulley system and I have an extra pulley from a 7.3 serpentine vacuum pump that seems to be the same from a 94.Does anyone know if it is possible to use a puller for the swap on these pulleys?basically going to take to old pulley and install on new vacuum pump.
Power steering puller is what you use, But I'm not understanding what you are doing.
Are you buying a new pump or trying to put serpentine pully on the old style pump.
The engine that is a 6.9 has the older belt system on it,have an extra vacuum pump from a newer (94) p/s that has the serpentine belt system. This vacuum pump is the same as the one on the 6.9 with the only difference is the pulleys.by simply removing the pulley that does not coincide with the belt system would be swapping out the pulley to the replaceing vacuum pump.
Isn't there just 2 bolts holding the diaphram on it may be simpler to just change it.
That is strange as my 86 has 3 bolts holding the pulley same as my 84, 85 and 91.
When the vac pump failed on my dad's 84, I had to pull the pulley off it as well. I had to modify the puller a little to get it under the collar. It was so far gone there was no salvage, just changing the diaphragm on it would not have fixed it...
The pulley assembly was just like a power steering pulley if I recall. Trying to remember now...I do recall that I had to grind the edges of my puller to get it in under the collar.
Well now I'm lost maybe I was thinking about the pulley on the alt. but I would of swore the pump used 3 8 or 10 millimeter bolts and I'm not where my pickup is right now.
I know what you mean, mine is at a friend's yet, and the old man's is down to the farm... The alt pulley is held by a single nut. The old smog pumps are bolted, can't say i have seen a bolt on vac pump just yet. I had taken the pump off the parts truck to turn in for core when the old man's went south.
