this is the first time i have had this truck going into cold weather so i never knew it did it....only does it when its cold wiether the truck is warmd up or not ....early 99 f250 powerstroke 6spd....ill leave it idleing and it'll kick up to around 12-1300rpm ill flip the foot feed it'l go back down to normal but it'll do it again...and like yesterday again and again and again.... but once i ran the truck into town around 20miles i never noticed it again. so anyone know what could be causing this and how to correct it?....thanks in advance for any and all info!
It's normal for the truck to do that. There is a sensor in the filter box that reads ambient temp. When it is cold out the truck will go into high idle to help warm up. Just hit the brake and it will stop. If you don't want the truck to do that, just unplug the sensor.
hit the brake to make it stop or unplug the sensor...thanks mapleshadediesel! could it be more prone to doing this since i removed the airbox and installed the 6637mod?.....thanks again!
No, it will just make it sound louder. I thought someting was wrong with my truck the first time it did this. I also have the 6637 mod, my sensor is just sitting under the filter. Well at least what is left of the sensor, I had a friendly animal chew the sensor to a stub, and no more high idle.
