Hey, I'm having a problem with my truck. It's a 5 speed and the past couple of times I've driven it the idle speed surges when I engage the clutch. It's happened when I'm slowing down to a stop and then start up again. It'll hold 3k rpm and then settle down. Then when I shift,it will surge up again. It seems to do it when it's cold outside, maybe just coincidense. Anyway, it doesn't happen all the time, but it's quite annoying. If anyone can help I'll greatly appreciate it. Thanks Jeremy
I got the same problem as you do I just purchased a very cherry 93 ranger. When I read your note I got a chill I am in the process of taking it to the shop. But I felt I would investagate the problem myself and found out that the
idle air control valve might be the gremlin we are looking for. feel free to email me with any questions I can let you know what the shop says morrow.
I got the truck back from the shop and it was what I thought . they cleaned up the valve and it only cost about 50.00 bucks. runs better then when I purchased it . I hope that helps . email with any questions you might have .
I too have a 93 3.0 and I had the same problem myself. I took odd the Idle Air control and cleaned it out. The removal is simple. Remove the dust shield, unplug the IAC, then the two bolts holding the IAC on. A good sign of its state can be determined by shaking the IAC a little. You should hear the valve rattle in the housing. If it doesn't clean it out with good cleaner. I used carb cleaner as the carbon build up was evident. Make sure the IAC is dry and you can hear the valve rattle before mounting the IAC back on. Inspect the gasket and be sure to clean the surfaces before remounting the IAC.
Worked perfect for me with no problems for the last 4 months since cleaning.
Thanks for the advice. I finally took my back to the shop due to the recent cleaning didnt work. In the mists of them prob in a hurry made a oversite without checking to see if there was a rattle. The ford shop placed a order for a new throtle motor next week. I still sorta laugh when the mechanic tryed to tell me it might be a chartaristic of that model lol.
thanks again ..
