I thought I wanted a new truck, but it turns out I want a new stereo setup in my ex, and its cheaper too. I'd love to have the Ford Sync setup but i dont know if its possible. Ideally, I want something that looks pretty close to stock, allows me to plug in my iPhone, has nav, will control the stock rear dvd player, xm, etc etc. Anyone have any ideas?
Also, the closer to stock or the less it stands out the better.
I did some looking and the Pioneer AVC-Z110BT seems like it would accomplish what I want, but I want to know what others have done that worked and problems along the way etc. To me, I want to work just like factory if not better.
go to avic411.com to find out more information on the Pioneer Head Units on eityher the Z or the F series. I personally can do everything on my F90BT that you are asking with the exception to controlling the rear DVD, I cant control it, but I can listen to the DVD through the stereo system. I can watch a DVD up front and the rear can watch something else, I would rather have it that way anyway. And I also have rear view camera.
I installed new front door speakers in my Ex. I can't recall the brand, but they are three way 6x8s. They were in my previous Bronco, as was the Bazooka powered 8" sub with a slave unit. I mounted these on a carpeted panel in the third row footwell. Nobody will sit there, and they are out of sight. (Off topic, but I have long wanted to remove the third seat and leave it out anyway)
The sound improvement was incredible, and everything still looks stock. Cargo area in the rear is unchanged. Just my .02.
FWIW, I have the 6CD unit in the dash.
Also off topic, but I just installed an iPod controller/adapter in my '06 Lincoln. The iPod stays in the console, and is controlled/charged from this module. Before the install, the radio (a touchscreen) didn't have an input...but it does now. The point is, with the technology today, adapting an iPod, etc, to a factory radio...and some upgrades can make a huge difference.
I think your challenge will be the rear DVD system. The newer factory units are different and would require quite a bit of customization (and new parts) to get it to work. I'd recommend a good in dash double-din DVD player and upgrade from there. There are quite a few audio/video upgrades on here - here's a link to my write up: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...tallation.html
I have sync in my MKX. What I did in the Ex was use my GPS. It has a bluetooth to my cell. I play the audio thru the built in fm modulator to 87.7. WHen the phone rings I hit the preset on my radio and can talk hands free plus you can adjust the volume with the steering wheel controls.
The Pioneer will work and there are peripherals to accomodate steering wheel controls and the factory entertainment. The pioneer is great as it has dual zone operation kids watch one thing and you do something els. Voice activated Ipod And cell as well as navigation.
I am a pioneer dealer and That is the unit am going with Plus Pioneer has a rebate going on now You will not be disappointed The only modification to the dash is the upper and lower catches for the factory radio. It will not cause any dificultie if you are careful and your factory radio when reinstalled will catch on the side and be secure. Good Luck
I run a Pioneer X910BT in my Ex. I retained rear DVD entertainment, steering wheel controls, onscreen ipod functionality, bluetooth, nav, XM, front DVD, etc. etc. etc. Great choice in my opinion.
