normal build time?
ok, so I ordered my 2010 fx4 on the 18th of november. I am over in Iraq right now and am hoping for the truck to be delivered while on leave in January. The "guaranteed" delivery date is by Feb 22. I was told that normally, ford is pretty good at building them quickly and geting them shipped to the dealer. So it "should" make it in January... I will be leaving on the 29th of Jan to come back to Iraq, so obviously I won't get to see/drive my new truck until the next time I come back home (undecided as to when that may be...). Anyone know about how long Ford generally takes to build a truck once they get an order? Or how backlogged they may be with orders right now? Does the factory close down for the holidays? If so, for how long? I'm pretty excited to see my new truck, and drive it before my wife does. She got to put the first few miles on the new crate motor in my '66 mustang, so it's definately my turn.
Dealer placed my order 9/11, it was built 09/23 and I took delivery at dealer on 9/29.
Ask them what date they are going to place the order with Ford. I think your dealer waiting to place the order for when you return so they don't have to sit on the truck and pay interest on it while you are overseas. If they tell you that they placed the order, then they should be able to get you the VIN now.
The DTP and KCAP are not that far out. I think the KCAP is working one less shift now because of a labor dispute and they laid off a bunch of temps. I doubt there will be more than a day or two of idle time over the holidays, if any at all. Even if the factories were idle from Christmas to New Yeas, each plant can crank out over 500 trucks per shift, and that's with two to three shifts per day, per plant.

Being a Ford UAW worker myself (Chicago Assy Plant)
There will be no production from 12/23/2009 - 1/04/2010 holiday shut down.
Good luck with your new truck, I'm sure you will really enjoy it!
I just bought a new 09 off the lot, after only 500 miles I'm very impressed
with this truck.
The ride and fuel mileage is much better than I expected.
I can say that....this is my 6th new Ford truck, they just keep gettin better!

My order should have ben placed on the 18th of Nov... I did not order it through a stateside dealership... there is a special program overseas which allows service members and all DOD civilians, etc to purchase from any ford, chrysler or harley davidson brand, at a significant savings, for stateside delivery. (used to have GM, but recalls made them too big a liability) I don't start paying on it until I actually take delivery, but it is in fact ordered... they want you to be able to pick it up when you return stateside. I will be on vacation in January, so I hope to be able to pick it up then. They told me it is guaranteed to be delivered by Feb 22nd, but this is to give them ample time, just in case of_______? If it is delivered before Jan, I guess I could allow my wife to pick it up with power of attorney. How long for delivery to Washington state? I don't know which plant is will be coming from, but I'd imagine the time difference between the two wouldn't be too different.
I ordered my truck on Nov. 4th and talked to my sales person yesterday. It showed a Dec 7th build date with delivery on Dec 21st. So the 6-8 weeks estimate I was give when I ordered it is with in the dates stated.
I hope it gets here sooner as my lease is up on Dec. 13th
They told me there was a 10 day grace period and if needed they could extend the lease daily because of having a new vehicle on order.

Can you order a lease truck?
No, you cannot order a lease truck.
Remember, you do not own a lease vehicle. You are leasing it from someone who already owns it and who already ordered it. So, you cannot order something you do not own (notwithstanding a possible buyout later).

Are you positive on that.
The truck I ordered is nothing special. Just a Red Candy W/tinted clear coat, XLT Super cab, 6.5 bed, 4.6 3v, 3.55, 4x4, Sync, trailer tow, chrome package and a few other thing.
You do not own a leased vehicle. The lease company owns it, in this case Ford Credit owns it.
Being that Ford just sweetened the lease deals on F150s for returning lessees I'll have that option again. All though I made up my mind that I was going to buy this one.
The only reason I started leasing was to get rid of a lemon 03 Expedition.

OK, so I actually got confirmation that the order went to Ford yesterday, December 4th... So I am guessing with the holiday break at the plant, sometime around January 20th? I'll still be home then, but more than half my vacation will be over.
I was told that they were going to put a "rush" on my order, to try and get it built quicker. Anyone know what that means as far as timelines are concearned? I'm just excited and anxious to drive the new truck. Hell, I'm anxious to drive my old truck... or my motorcycle, or my Mustang... Anything!

seeing as how it's not a dealership I'm dealing with and the salespeople don't get comission, I don't think it's BS... They told me that they can request a rush order, and it normally gets built quicker... they have no reason to lie to me, or ayone else for than matter. If they did, word of dishonest practice would not only get spread quickly on base over here, but I am in a unique position where I have the power to get any non American kicked off base (the salespeople are all Irish, believe it or not), so they have a vested intrest in not screwing me. I basically can get them fired... If you are not allowed on base, you get kicked out of Iraq (unless you want to test your Arabic skills in downtown Baghdad...)
It's really kind of a power trip. I love my job...

Understand what you have posted fully.
I believe that Ford accepts every order as "rush" as they need to get them built and shipped ASAP to stay in business.
Let us know if you get faster than 6 to 8 weeks........that will show if they were able to get yours pushed along any faster. I hope they are able in your case. It would be great for you to come home and pick-up a new truck the very next day.
