I'm posting this to see what way is the best to go Flat.
I know there is 2 possibility's. Flat paint that is made to be sprayed flat and the flat additive for clear coat. I'm looking for opinions and info on the process. I want to do my whole truck flat gun metal grey an then all the trim grill and bumpers flat black. I want it to last to be durabal.
I was looking at this brand it has the UV protectant mixed in Hot Rod Flatz. Anybody use this stuff?
I'm not familiar with that line. i would recommend speaking with a local paint supplier that handles PPG- if they do not knoe the regional rep for PPG will. You will get products that are available (not just now but in the future).
If you go with the base/clear and Matte the clear, you'll get the best durability. Lots of satin primers being sprayed on rat rods lately - looks cool, but practically rubs off.
Hey 1979 I just posted a thread just like this one i the 1973-1979 forum. Here is a color chart on the hot rod flatz. I am not familiar with it but I ordered this chart about a year ago. I am thinking of spraying mine with it but i want some more info on it as well.

One thing to remember, the flatening agent for clears will not allow you to buff out imperfections, dirt and other contaminates that end up in the paint will have to stay there because buffing will just cause the clear to shine up like normal.

Just what I was going to say if you want flat go with PPG DP products givs that flat look and can be mached latter if need be.
