power steering fluid

i want to flush my power steering fluid on my 01 sport trac...i just want to know if i can i use MERCON V ATF? and how many quarts ...any help?

Yes you can, it is a great fluid to use as PS. Disconnect the return line to flush the system. How many quarts depends on how long it takes to get the old fluid out.

the owners manual for my 99 Ex 4.0 SOHC says I should use F type fluid in the power steering. Yet all you guys use Mercon. What should I use?

normally the factory fill for the power steering is what they are putting in the transmission that year. Power steering must needs a good quality light oil... any trans fluid will do.. THe transmission is specifically designed for a certain fluid, so dont mix type F, Mercon and MERCON V in it. That being said, MERCON is being phased out and MERCON V is the new standard and upgrade for most systems.
