06' 6.0l. Truck just recently started to get really hard to start when its cold. blows white smoke for a while until its warmed up then it runs just fine.
Make sure the oil is at the proper level and in good shape (5W40 synthetic and not past 7500 miles between changes - really shouldn't go past 5000 IMO).
Get the latest flash for your processors at the dealership.
Oil level is good and oil is fairly new. Any other guesses? I'm leaving to go camping tomorrow about 4 hours away. I would hate to have this thing fail on me when I'm out there or on the way there!
Get the flash update - as I said in the first post.
Pretty interesting you post a problem and expect it to be solved in one day over the internet ..............
Maybe someone else has some guesses that will fix it tonight.
What is this flash update you speak of? I have never heard of it.
PS...sorry for bringing my thread back to the top by asking if anyone else had any guesses.... Let me know how long I should wait next time and I'll be sure and do it for you.

Whether intentional or not, you ignored the solution offered - the flash. It is the update of your computer programming that controls your powertrain, transmission, and fuel injection. Depending on the production date of your engine, an update of these processors is the most likely solution (beyond determining that the simple maintenace items have been done on schedule). The root cause being the oil side of your injectors - a condition called "oil latching" or "stiction".
Your choice of the word "guessing" implies a certain regard for the quality of answer - especially when the recommendation was ignored.
Stiction will only get worse - especially in cold weather. It usually develops slowly though. probably slow enough that your cmping trip would be fine unless it got extremely cold.
Lastly - since you did not acknowledge it either - the oil weight in winter is critical. Use ONLY 5W40 or 10W30 CI4+ or CJ4 oil.
edit -
If the flash does not end up helping, the issue is more than likely in the injectors, FICM, or even possibly the EGR cooler (if you are losing coolant) - all of which can get expensive.
Does it get any better if you plug it in? How long is it blowing white smoke after start up? When you told Bismic that the oil is fairly new, what grade is it. Most lube places will put 15w40 in a 6.0. Will cause injector problems in the cold weather. You've already got some good advice from one of the guys that knows a lot about the 6.0psd. Lots of times there are no quick answers with these engines due to their complexity. You should also check your coolant to see if it's dropping or there is oil in it. Hope this helps.
I have never tried plugging it in. I took a quick look for a cord and didnt see anything. I'm wondering if my block has a heater??? It was cold this morning (for arizona that is) at 43 degrees and it took several attempts to get it started.
I checked the oil and it is indeed 15w40. Didnt know it was so critical in these engines. I also spoke with a buddy of mine that is a ford mech. He said it sounds like a FICM going bad and he doesnt recommend I go on my camping trip because I might end up stuck on the side of the road. I guess I will take it in to the dealer again first thing in the morn.
The bright side, I made it almost 2 months this time between break downs! I'm shocked that Ford would continue to produce a vehicle year after year with so many problems.

If it's been 2 months since your last visit to the dealership, do you know if they flashed the motor to a newer update while it was there? The reason is because it seems like the more recent PCM flashes are causes electrical problems in the FICM which has caused MANY FICM failures recently. It does sound like a FICM problem anyways, and with the truck having been in the shop in the last 2 months might prove the reason why the FICM has gone bad. Get it in under warranty ASAP as if this is the problem, it could leave you stranded on your camping trip.
As a side note, you have a good year for a truck. Now you just need to have it fixed right and stick with that. These are good trucks if you understand them and what it takes to keep them properly running. Good luck.

Should not have to plug in or have problems at 43 degrees. We get colder than that here in S. California.
Who did you take it to? When I needed some warranty work when I was in the Phoenix area, I went to Berg Ford. They just did a bandaid fix and the problem didn't go away. I had heard that Sanderson Ford was a good dealership for warranty work, the only problem is that everybody uses them and so they're usually backed up. Who did you take your truck to? Hopefully they can find the problem quickly and get you on your way. Like I said before, the key to the 6L is finding someone who knows how to fix it right the first time and then you just leave it alone after that.....with routine maintenance of course.
