hey everyone just wanted to through out a question regarding the time sert kit. Just had mine delivered and am looking for any useful tips or tricks to doing the job. Oh ya I am now a proud member of the flying spark plug club. Yay me. By the way it was the second one back on the passenger side. Any tips/advice would be great.
I just did that same plug about 4 months ago on my Expy. Took me about 2 hours. I had to unbolt the fuel rail so i could move it out of the way a little. I used a rubber glove in the plug hole to get tdc on the compression stroke then continued to crank to let the piston go down about 2 inches so i did'nt hit the piston with any of the tools. Rotate the crank with a breaker bar not with the key. Used an air ratchet to ream the hole and countersink, then threaded by hand. Use grease on the reamer, countersink and tap to minimize metal shaveings that fall into cylinder. Also attached a garden hose to my shop vac to suck chips from the cylinder and an air nozzle to try and blow chips out. You want to get all the chips out of the cylinder. Just follow the instruction in the time sert kit they are great and take your time. Good luck with your repair.
Just to update. I re-threaded my spark plug hole yesterday with the time sert kit. I must say it is an awesome tool. The only scary part encountered was doubting myself whether or not the valves were closed. I knew they were but still it plays head games with you.
I blew the back plug out of the passenger side head, took it to a shop and had them do the treaded insert, then that blew out, had to get a new head. I hope you have better luck with it than I did.
What type of insert did they use. I have heard rumors of shops using Helicoils and in return blowing out again. I have heard nothing but good feedback with the Time-Sert kit.
Just a hint, you can use compressed air to verify that the valves are closed, just pump compressed air into the spark plug hole and if air blow out the exhaust the exhaust valve is open and if blow out the throttle body the intake valve is open.

They said it was the Time-Sert but I have to admit I never saw the package. I would of done it myself, but at the time I had absolutely no time and couldn't do without my vehicle.
