99 F250LD 4x4 W/2v 5.4L
I purchased the time-sert kit 5553 to repair a blown out spark plug that has never been repaired. Just watched a video of a guy repairing a 99 5.4 and he used the 5600, (big-sert). Now I'm confused about having the correct kit. Which
kit do I need?
There are several ways to skin the same cat. 5553 is the correct one (usually) for a virgin repair.
The 5600 is is a combo kit that includes both the 5553 stuff plus the extra items for the 3X-sized last chance repair.
FWIW, "big-sert" is the same as the 51549 insert for this application. Don't read too much into the term "big-sert" , it's not a specific size or anything, it's more the name of a product line or class of inserts.
Just an update. Repair went pretty smoothly. I did screw up right off the bat and didn't tighten the setscrew quite tight enough on the tapering cutter. DON'T DO THAT! Took a while to remove. After that , went smoothly. ( Made sure the setscrew was tight). Driven about 120 miles since with no problems. Still feel like I'm in a ticking time bomb. Hopefully that will dissipate. Thanks for the help
