I restore my 48 f1 and need a new radiator.
Where can I get a new radiator for my flathead 6? Can I take a cooler from a V8 ?
Thanks for your help
Frank
The radiator from a 6 cylinder engine is different than a flathead V8. You can convert a flathead V8 radiator to a 6 radiator by removing one inlet and one outlet but IMO it won't look good. You might be able to use a radiator from a more modern vehicle, it may not look too good either but if you can find something on the side of the ocean it will probably be a lot easier than a correct one.
If you're looking for a new radiator LMC advertises one for the flat 6. There has been discussions on the board about different radiator vendor, do a search to find the posts. Since you don't have at least 25 posts you won't be able to use the site search, you can do a search using Google:
Thanks for the fast reply and for both infos.
I could restore it , but it would be to expensive, in germany. I would rather have a new one
And I put some picture in from my restauration , to get more posts
Do you have the old radiator? If so, any local shop can rebuild it to better than new. I would not buy any used radiator except to use as a core for a rebuild.
For the price of a recore, using 50+ year old tanks with all the stress problems, you can have a new built, at least here in the states. I have a few extra radiators sitting around with bad cores and the tanks look a little iffy too. I had a quote of $400 for a new radiator locally. The last time I inquired about a recore it was in the $350 range, go figure. I assume a new unit won't look exactly like an original, that's one thing to think about.

We carry them for 375.00, they aren't exact of original though as they are 4 row. But we could send you a catalog if you'd like. Send me an email if you are interested.
In my case it would be better to buy a new one. on the web side from lmc they make an offer for 250 bucks. I hope that is correct.LMC Truck Parts - Page 71
