226 flat 6 Radiator; Regular cab and COE the same?

Had someone ask me if the COE 226 Flathead 6 radiator vs the regular cabs radiator for a 226 flathead 6 where the same??

I had a COE F5 with Flathead 6 but have not had any regular cab trucks with the 226 six in them to compare to. I would think they are the same but don't know for sure? anyone know?

Thanks

Josh

I don't know, but mine is out of the F4 at present. I could take pics or get measurements...

The same, but different.

According to the Ford parts catalog, 48-51 Conventional, COE and Parcel Delivery 6 cylinders use the same radiator. It does appear that the F-4 and larger trucks used a larger capacity radiator than the F-1-3's. It shows the large truck radiator being listed as special equipment extra cooling when used in the F-1-3 trucks. So it appears that any radiator will physically fit in any truck, but the 'working' trucks did get a different, larger rad. Large truck rad used a different radiator cap than the small trucks, but both are shown as 4 pound. The '52 215 uses a different radiator altogether.

The same deal applies to V8 trucks, as well.

I believe the larger trucks F7-8 and COEs had a larger tank, but the rest was the same dimensions.

From what I've found, the 226 6 cyl and 215 6 cyl radiators only differ in the upper tube. 226 radiator has the tube pointing down at a 45 degree angle, while the 215 radiator points straight out at 90 degrees from the tank.

If the COE's used the same rad as the F7-8, then it was also the same as the F4-6. That's what the application chart in the Ford Chassis parts catalog says, anyway. My catalog doesn't have listings for the big job trucks. Was the 226 or 254 even an option in the F7-8? Didn't they all use a version of the Lincoln V8?

I'm sure that the 254 6 cyl and the 337 V8 were standard equipment in the F7-8 trucks. Not sure about the COE, but I would assume the same as everything else besides the cab was based on the F7-8 platform.

I had a 48-50 F8 and it had the 337 in it with a radiator that had a larger tank on top. I never had a COE with the engine/radiator still inside so can't confirm my assumption.

Thanks guys, I have seen plenty of the V8 radiators F-1 through F-6 and for the most part they are all the same, excepting minor differences in some of F-1 Radiators have a thinner core? IIRC. and the top tank hangs over the back edge of the core on those particular ones.

They Guy I talked to was looking at maybe buying a 49 F3 and he was looking for a few parts that he would need to buy if he purchased the truck. and the only 6 cylinder radiator I could think of around here was the one in the COE f5 with 226 that I sold a while back, he may not need it since he's building something custom.

Wayne, do you have one for sale?? I could point him in your direction if he ends up needing one and or can't find one locally?

Cheers

Josh
