Is it possible to buy a new bass/copper radiator for under $300?
Check with a local rad shop or 2 and get an estimate to rebuild. You'd be surprised how much the difference would be in these times. If they want your business they'd probably give you a fair deal. As long as your original tank's are good, the core's are very reasonable.
I try never to pay more then half of the new cost to repair something old. I found a shop 75 miles away that said they only repair leaks, or try, $175. I have seen those aluminum chinese specials sell for $250 but want to stay away from those.
If I owned a radiator shop, I'd take any work I could get (especially in this economy). I guess we're spoiled around here. The shop just down the road fixed one for me and never said a word (for much less than $100 as I recall). They also fixed a monster radiator that came out of a rock truck while I was there too. It's all a matter of how much you want the business in my opinion.

And a lot of that kind of work could be CASH MONEY under the table.
How did that LMC radiator work out? Was it brass/copper?
Still in the box - expecting to install during May. Based on needhelp's response, I'm expecting positive results. No, it is not brass / copper.
I'm not biased against aluminum units. With the price of copper and improvements in manufacturing practices, it is a viable alternative in many applications. Ask today's car builders.
