Hello FTE. First off, thank you all for the abundance of knowledge that is shared here. I have been lurking here since I bought my truck a couple of months ago, and I have already learned so much. My truck is a 2001 F-350 CC LWB SRW. I am getting ready to replace my leaky up pipes and was looking around at them today and noticed something that I can't believe I hadn't before. On the side of my turbo, in big letters, it says "Garrett." On the other side, it says "1.00 A/R." Did someone put a 38R in my truck? Here is a picture:
I'm wondering though, you mentioned a 1.0 exhaust housing, I thought the stock exhaust housings were .84 or something, huh?? My 38R has the 1.0 housing..

His picture is the stock turbo, and the stock turbos have a 1.0 compressor housing, and a .84 exhaust housing. The 1.0 that he saw stamped is in reference to the compressor housing.
But yes, the 38r has a 1.0 exhaust housing. In addition, the exhaust housings for the stock turbo and 38r are interchangeable. The compressor housings are not, due to the larger compressor wheel on the 38r.
I thought the exhaust wheels were slightly different between the 38r & stocker. Or is that just with the van turbo & 1.15 a/r housing?
Van turbo has a different exhaust wheel. I asked the same thing a while back, and finally found out that the 38R uses the same turbine wheel as the stocker, but the van turbo is slightly different.
