I own a '02 F-250 7.3 pwrstroke with 225,000 miles. A few weeks ago I noticed an occasional puff of blue smoke out of my exhaust. Ya'll gonna think I'm crazy but the strange thing is, that it only does this when I take a hard RIGHT TURN!! It runs great, ez start, no loss of power or rough idling. I am goin thru very little oil. I had a new turbo put in back in January and and havn't had any problems until now. Has anybody seen or heard of this before?
Welcome to FTE. Unless you've got an electrical short causing a skip in the motor (which you should be able to feel) I cannot think of any reason that blue smoke would show up ONLY on hard right turns.
How heavy is the smoke when it happens? Just a puff? What happens if you go to a vacant parking lot and crank the wheel all the way to the right and drive in circles? Is the smoke speed dependent.
Perhaps you're just noticing a puff of smoke if you get on the throttle a little coming out of a turn.

That is what I was thinking Chris. Maybe he is just seeing the exhaust through the mirror as he is coming off a right turn. A little SOTP action.
Thanx for the response. Well the smokin is getting thicker, and I'm not feeling a skip or any kind of miss at all. I've tried goin around the block taking all left turns and nothing. Do the same taking RIGHT turns and there she blows!! Also as I'm approaching my turn I let off the accelerator way in advance and coast into the turn and there it is again. I'm currently in California, drove in from TEXAS 1500 miles and never smoked goin down the interstate. It only does it around town. It's quite embarrasing since my truck normaly gets many compliments on its looks. I'm lost and confused here, I've invested quite a bit of $$$$ in it so i'd hate to get rid of it. Thanx in advance for ya'lls input my FORD Brothers!!
I'm thinking he's just seeing it better making the right turn INTO the direction of the exhaust. Turning left, you'll be turning away from it. Could be wrong, but I'm just brain dumping.
I'm curious if the turbo is stock as well. It could just be getting a bit tired with that many miles. Actually, what all has been done to it? Give us a run-down, please. And welcome to FTE! Where in TX are you from? Chris & I are in the DFW area.
1st of all I'm from San Angelo, Tx. not 2 far from DFW area. and NO my turbo is not stock. It was replaced in January of this year. Before that I replaced the High Pressure Oil Pump back in '07. Like I said B4 there is no loss in power or at least not significant enough to notice a difference. I'll be goin home in a couple of weeks and My Baby's goin straight to the shop. I was just hoping somone had seen this B4 and help me understand the problem. The right turn thing is not an illusion, I've had to show my co-workers cuz they too thot I was seeing things. Everybody's dumbfounded!! HAHA!! But when I get this resolved I will for sho' share the Mystery!!

What turbo is on the truck currently? A stock replacement, aftermarket?
Do you notice any difference in the sound of the truck when turning right? Is the smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe or out from under the truck by chance?
I think we're getting somewhere now. So you do see some smoke when coasting up to the turn too? Lets get some more specific info on the turns. Typically a right turn is something you slow down more for, so more acceleration is required to get back up to speed coming out of the turn. A left turn crosses one lane (at least) and is a more gradual turn that does not require you to slow down as much, or accelerate as much coming out of it.
Let's see if we can narrow this down to an RPM range and throttle position.
