Phillips, well the ol girl didn't start one day after work and she would just click, so I figured the brand new wire I had just put on the starter was loose or something so I reached under the truck and the wire was tight, but the solenoid was loose, so I tried wiggling in and I could but I couldn't get it to stay long enough to start. So I got the girl I was working with (a pretty hot blonde) to hold the ignition while I tried wiggling it, and then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzt pow and bright light I came scramblin out of under the truck.
lol sounds like something i would do.go find the hot chic to show her my manly skills of fixin stuff and then electricuting myself and looking like an idiot.and if im lucky she would nurse me back to health........
lol rupes is that what u and ur gf do u go out allmost kill urself working on ur truck them have ur nurse u back to health them repeat i do this ever weekend lol
man i feel like a numb nut!!i went and tightened the bottom screw on the solenoid and it took right off now to fish my arm to the top one to make sure its good.i guess when your frustrated you think the worst.so i guess i can get my $40 back for the solenoid
oddly enough i just had my starter solonoid go bad....not sure how but the possitive wire bolt is loose inside the solonoid...it's a brand new starter but something happend inside the stupid thing to make it loose....i don't think its fixable so it's another $40 into the pit.
Buy your starter where you can get a lifetime warranty, even if it costs you twice as much.
I am on starter #5 since I bought mine way back in the mid 90's for 435 dollars at NAPA.
Their newest price is close to 300 dollars, but still a bargin.
And the starter mounted solenoid is what usually goes out on the starter, 2000 amps hitting the contacts when you crank the engine does a number on them.
absolutely great advise Dave. The only thing is the night i bought my truck my starter went so all the money i had, went to the truck so i had to scrounge to find the 250 for the nippendenso i have now, but luckily i talked the guy out of paying the core charge for it on the spot since i was such a frequent customer....apparently the guy i bought the truck from said he had put a cat starter on it...i don't know if thats true or not but it wasn't worth a S**T seeing as how it lasted 3 months. But i will deffinately remember the lifetime warranty when i buy all the other parts!
