Hey guys I have been searching and searching trying to figure out what is wrong with my first Diesel.
I have had the truck for about two weeks and it runs great however, after work a couple days ago it would not start .... so I ending up jumping the starter and it started right up and runs great... I have been starting it this way in order to get to and from work but I need to get it fixed.
The starter relay is good, and all starter fuses...
It is an automatic and I tried starting it in park and neutral and moved the shifter around to make sure that wasn't the issue.
I also has an alarm so I put in in "vallet mode" to turn off all functions to make sure that isn't causing the issue...
I have looked at several threads on here but nothing matchings my symptoms... the truck runs great once i jump the starter.
How do you know that the starter relay is good?
How are you jumping the starter?
Are you using this wire? It will not be the same on the E-series
but the function is the same.
It runs from that connector to the starter solenoid. When you
do a normal start if you check that connection you should have 12V.
If you do the problem is the starter it's self or a broken wire.

M-Chan would know the exact details on that.

I swapped the starter relay with the blower motor relay (same relay ) and still not start from ignition.
using the test light I know the relay is getting constant power as well as the starter fuse.
To jump the starter I am connecting the two terminals on the starter and it fires right up.
I have heard of this other wire but right now I work dark to dark so I haven't had a chance to follow the wire up.
Cheezit,
So if he was to ground the PCM side of the relay the starter "SHOULD"
spin?
If that works then he is down to a bad safety switch. Or if it does not it could
be an alarm relay between the starter relay and the PCM that is the fault.
I just want to make sure. We are dealing with an E-series right?
the main cable running to the starter corroded right apart at its connecter on the starter right after i bought my truck. i put a new connector on the end of it and has been fine since.
So I took the cheap looking alarm vallet switch off last night and inspected it for broken wires, bad connections etc. and I traced it to the other alarm electronics and moved everything around a little bit but I did not see any visual problems...
After that I was able to fire it up using the ignition 4 times in a row and she fired up for me this moring... I do not think I fixed anything maybe the problem is going to become intermitten?
