Heated mirrors 98 Expy

Love this forum and alot of you people have been such a huge help in troubleshooting the many probs I've faced regarding some minor things so there's alot of Thanks ! going out to each posters .
It seems I havent seen any post regarding powered heated mirrors .
My 98 Expy prob is ; mirrors operate , turn signals inside mirrors are fine also but it seems neither left or right seem to heat to defrost them .( It's been cold a few mornings here already up north in canada lol ) .Checked fuse box and #17 is fine since motor and signal work fine ........unless , as usual with Ford , there's another fuse for heating ?I doubt both mirror's heating element died at same time ? Am dumbfounded about this one lol

Again thanks to all

There is a relay in your fuse panel that i think works them. It ia the same one that runs the rear defrost.

It's my understanding that in 98 you could get heated mirrors or turn signal mirrors, not both. Are you assuming that you have heated mirrors, or do you know you definitely have them and they stopped working?

Just in case you do have them, the heating element for heated mirrors are tied to the rear window defroster and are not powered by the power mirror fuse.

alloro is correct.... for both first gen expys (97 and 98) you could have either heated or turn signal mirrors but not both. however, it is also the case that the wiring harness is there for either.

Well i bought the truck used this summer , and since i owned a chevy silverado with heated mirrors and turn signals before I assumed they both heated and had signal in it too .From what I read from the owner's manual ,they do mention the heated mirrors are only activated while the rear defroster is on .But the other morning i had rear defrost on and worked fine but the mirrors did not defrost .SO you're right .its either turn signal or heated .Kinda silly but i guess that's Ford for ya lol .Thanks for the help

When I got my 97 it didn't have heated or turn signals. I ended up installing a remote start system that had an AUX output which I tied to the rear defroster switch. Then I figured it would be nice to have the heated mirrors, so I swapped mine out for some heated ones. The wiring wasn't there so I had to run the wires from the doors to the rear defroster circuit. But now I can press the AUX on the remote and have the rear window and the mirrors cleared by the time I get out there.

Now if i want to remove my signal mirrors and install power heated mirrors , will that 5 prong oem connector automaticaly make the mirrors defrost when i put the rear defrost on ?I'd rather have heated mirrors than signal ones cuz of climate here .

Nope, the connector is different and the wires from the rear defroster aren't there. You have to run them.
