I was doing my Windows update tonight, and I thought that I'd look for updates to m Office 07. There are several, but they're scattered around. They recommend that you install Microsoft update.
My question is, can you control it? They mention that it's configureable, but don't give any details. I do my win updates manually, and I pick through the list to make sure that they're OK. I have successfully avoided IE8 using this method.
So, do you have the same type of control with Mocrosoft update? If not, I'll poke around the Office site and grab the ones I need.
Windows Update notifies the user when updates are available, allows the user to control if
& when updates are downloaded, if & when they're installed. Additionally, updates can be
individually selected or excluded.
Windows Update == Office Update == Microsoft Update

For clarification..
Windows Update comes with windows and updates Windows.
Contains Security updates, Driver updates, and windows program updates(IE, Media player, Etc)....
Microsoft Update is more comprehensive and updates Windows, Office, or any other Microsoft programs..
Automatic updates are easy for some people, but we all know not all updates are good or needed.. Some have crashed the operating system..
I hesitate to install MS update until I'm sure, because it might be one of the permanent installation deals.
When I used to work, one of the things I did towards the end was check that various Win Updates were compatible with some of our products. We made a WinXp device for library checkout and security. We had our own updater on it, so we could exclude any problematic updates -- and there were some.
As a general rule, I find the WIN updates OK, but I like to check the list. I have still not gone to IE8 due to all of the bad press I've seem about it.
I also scratch off updates that don't apply to my system.
I have installed it on a few machines and it hangs and is just to flakey..
I am still running IE6 on my PC..
Same here!
My youngest daughter and youngest son 'allowed' IE 8 to download and install on their pcs.
My daughter's pc wouldn't connect to the internet afterward, and my youngest son's pc would 'bump him off the web' (his words) after 15 minutes.
I looked at their pcs, and sure 'nuff, as soon as I uninstalled IE 8 and restored to IE 6, problems were gone.
