Running XP Pro set for auto updates. Got an update downloaded and I don`t want to install it. How do I remove the uninstalled download?
The little messages at startup and shutdown telling me to install it are driving me crazy.
And yes, I have changed the settings so that, hopefully, I only get updates that I want downloaded.
Thanks for any help.
Unless someone else has any other ideas, I believe you'll have to let it install the update then use system restore to rollback the update... If you have a restore point set shortly before the update, you shouldn't have any problem...
If it's the SP3 update, I ran SP3 on a few machines and didn't have any problem with it...

If you are getting the pop up in the system tray on the lower right saying Updates are available then it hasn't installed..
Possibley failed to install..
All you need to do is uncheck the box to install it and then it will give you another option to never show it again..
Change your settings in security center, in the control panel, to prevent automatic installation. There should still be an automatic download option, but one that requires your input to install. Personally, I make sure security center is set to never notify, and then go out from time to time and look for updates myself. That way I never get the annoying popup, and I know just what is being installed.
Unless it's a major update, like SP3, IE8, MediaPlayer11 and so on, there is no uninstall option under add/remove programs. A rollback to the last restore point is usually the only option.
Thanks to everyone who replied. But donjamer you are the man. Followed your instructions-yellow icon gone.
It was something that said it would offer me a choice of browser to run along with IE7. It also said that once installed it could not be removed.
And virto I think I will follow your advice to avoid a similar problem in the future.
Furyus1, I already have SP3 with no problems. I didn`t want to install it because of the warning that once installed it couldn`t be removed.
Thanks again to all. You guys are magic.
