steeringwheel
I am looking for an original steeringwheel but in the netherlands is that impossible . Now ther is a ranchero wheel for sale thats why i have this question.
to have a round hub (not square) and can't have an air bag. The last Ranchero I'm familiar
with is from the late 1970s and was based on the LTD II; the earlier ones were based on
the Torino. I would think that a wheel from that vehicle should work just fine in your 1983
truck. Even from an earlier Ranchero, down to 1970, should work.
1970 is when Ford began using column-mounted ignition lock cylinders in their cars; 1969
and prior had them on the dash. 1969 and prior wheels *may* work but I really don't know,
you'd have to try it and see.
In the mid 80s, they started installing air bags in the steering wheels of some cars, and
some cars had turn-signal-stalk controls for things like headlights & wipers; those wheels
have big, square-ish hubs and I can't imagine they'll work for your 1983 truck. I think they
started doing this in trucks in 1987.
Airbags in f-series started in 1994.
I'm going to be pulling the stock steering wheel off my 84 f-250 pretty soon in favour of something else....
