changing steering wheel?
i measured the wheel and colunms and they seem pretty close in length, but will it work?
and is the wheel fixable?
As an option, a new repro can be had for $150 from the Falcon according to this web page: 1960-1963 STEERING WHEELS - BLACK ONLY - Steering - Falcon Enterprises
Excerpt:
"This is an excellent reproduction BLACK ONLY steering wheel for all models of the 1960 - 1963 Ford Falcon & Mercury Comet. This steering wheel is also correct for the 1961 - 1970 Ford trucks. "
Fixing the cracks is usually a temporary thing. You need to get down to the metal, seal it from any rust, then epoxy the wheel up and sand/paint it. If there is any rust on the metal ring inside, it will continue to spread and move around. It can be done.
I have a older wheel and colunm, the wheel needs some work. i measured the wheel and colunms and they seem pretty close in length, but will it work?

1960/63 Falcon/Comet / 1961/66 F100/250 2WD / 1966 F100 4WD / 1966/73 Bronco / 1967/70 F100/250 / 1969/70 F350.
Uses either a horn ring or horn button. This 3 spoke steering wheel has been reproduced by Dennis Carpenter...in black only.

The correct 2 spoke steering wheel for 1971 is also the same as the following:
1971/77 F100/350 (except 1975/77's with Speed Control) / 1974/77 Bronco / 1975/77 Econoline (except Speed Control).
Uses a black vinyl horn pad with/without wood graining (Ranger XLT).
I suggest you find one of these wheels, then you won't have problems with the turn signals and horn using the older wheel. The columns are not the same either.
This 2 spoke wheel has also been reproduced (in black only) by Dennis Carpenter, who also has the 2 types of vinyl horn pads (3 if you count '75/77's w/Speed Control).
