Your heater core has probably rotted out. Do not drive the truck until you bypass the heater core or replace it.

+1. Does it smell sweet like antifreeze, have you checked your radiator fluid?

I had a similar problem with my '82 F100. After a heavy rain, the carpet on the driver's side would be wet. It took a while, but I eventually found the leak.

If you look down into the cowl vent (between the hood and windshield) there is a place where the "floor" under the cowl vent and the rear vertical wall (which goes up to the bottom of the windshield) are spot welded together. That joint was originally sealed at the factory with some sort of caulk or sealant. On mine, all of that sealant had dried out, cracked, and had mostly fallen out in chunks. That left that seam open to water coming in. When it comes in here, it runs down the inside of the firewall into the cab. My truck has a heat/noise damping material on the cab side of the firewall, so I never could see the water coming in. I removed the cowl vent grill and scrubbed that joint down well, then sealed it with roofing caulk (the stuff you used to caulk around flashing on a roof). That solved my leak. The truck smelled of asphalt for a few days, though :-)

That is good information, f100jim. I experienced this with a 1978 F100 as well as my son's 1984 F150.

Thanks I will look there as soon as i get time today just to make sure.
I believe I norrowed it down to either the rear window or the cargo light seal, due to the water path. But I had been driving so bumps and turns on two wheels and all so nothing has been really ruled out exept for antifreeze.

I recommend buying 3M's all around auto body sealant to fix the seams in the body.

You can buy this at most automotive paint stores.

The above product does not contain silicone, which can be harmful and corrosive to steel and certain metals.

Don't forget the seams around the "A" and "B" pillars where the roof of the cab meets them, and along the top drip rail. This is where I had a bad leak on my drivers side. It acted like a leaky windshield, but water was coming in through the seam and around the windshield that way due to the original caulk deteriorating.
